As Captain America, Thor and Spider-Man unite as Marvel's new Warriors Three, fans find out why Peter Parker believes he's the last person Steve Rogers would want to work alongside. While the Sentinel of Liberty, God of Thunder and Friendly Neighborhood Wall-Crawler have worked together before on the Avengers, they're now uniting under a different banner to take on a huge new threat that Marvel promises "will either draw them closer together or drive them all insane!"

In a preview of J. Michael Straczynski and Carlos Magno's upcoming Captain America #14, Thor returns to his one-time home of Broxton, Oklahoma, sensing a new threat is at work. Years ago, Asgard was suspended over Broxton, with the townspeople and gods learning to live alongside each other. While Asgard eventually returned to its own plane of existence, Thor has loved the residents of Broxton ever since, turning them into a target when the 'God of Hammers' sought to attack him.

Elsewhere, Captain America settles down in his new apartment building, while Spider-Man tries to pluck up the courage to call Steve Rogers. Peter is still cringing over a recent adventure where he called on Cap for help, only for no threat to materialize, wasting the legendary hero's time. Thankfully, as the three are thrown together by a mysterious new threat, Peter will get a chance to fix this neglected friendship.

Marvel is keeping the exact nature of the threat the three heroes will face mysterious, however it appears that Thor senses something magical afoot after seeing an aberration in a documentary shot within Broxton. It's likely that this is some kind of threat tied to Asgard's previous presence in Broxton, likely stirred up by the God of Hammers' attack. Writer Straczynski previously worked on both Thor and Spider-Man, making this a reunion of heroes whose mythology he influenced forever. It's therefore possible that the new threat will combine the lore of Cap, Spidey and Thor.

The three are coming together under the name 'the Warriors Three.' This is an old Asgardian title usually bestowed on Fandral, Hogun, and Volstagg - longtime allies of Thor who possess a strong bond. However, the codename has been used by other trios fighting in Asgard's best interests, and this time it applies to the three Avengers. That's a good thing for each of them, because all are struggling with their own major threats and sense of isolation, with Steve Rogers needing connection and support more than ever.

Captain America Needs Spider-Man & Thor More Than Ever

Steve Rogers Has Taken on a Cosmic Status That Changes Everything

captain america is a change agent

Recently in Captain America comics, Captain America has become an agent of Lyra - an embodiment of the cosmic force of Life. He fought her 'brother' Death and assembled a team of fellow 'Change Agents' - beings who have the potential to advance human progress so long as they remain alive. As part of this huge battle, Captain America saw his own future death, and now knows he'll one day perish in a second battle against Death itself. He's also finally aware that he is a 'Change Agent,' and that his place in history has been part of a larger cosmic order, rather than a matter of chance.

That's a lot to cope with, even for Captain America, and Steve Rogers has a lot to gain by touching base with his allies. Thor has always respected Steve Rogers as the latest in a long line of human leaders whose capability and bravery inspire even the God of Thunder, even as their lives are only a blip in history. Meanwhile, Spider-Man looks up to Captain America as a superhuman paragon of virtue. Connecting with these heroes can help Steve Rogers realign his self-image, especially now that he knows the truth is somewhere in between.

Spider-Man Is Famously Terrible at Maintaining His Hero Relationships

Peter Parker's Refusal to Reach Out Is Constantly Alienating His Allies

marvel's heroes explain why spider-man is hated

Spider-Man being worried to reach out to Captain America makes sense, since Peter Parker is famously terrible at maintaining his superhero relationships. Despite being one of only three heroes invited to join the Avengers, X-Men and Fantastic Four, Spidey isn't great at maintaining his relationships. Everyone from Wolverine to Miles Morales has told Peter that his inability to stay in contact and keep his allies informed about what's going on in his life makes it difficult to truly be his friend. Given he lives a life where he might disappear into another dimension or have his body stolen by a villain, Spidey's lack of communication makes it hard to trust him - something that heroes need to do in life or death situations.

It's therefore actually something of a step forward for Spider-Man to be considering reaching out to Captain America just to talk, suggesting Peter is finally learning from all the criticism he's received before. Hopefully, he doesn't learn the wrong lesson when his attempt to reach out to Cap results in being dragged into battle against a deadly new threat. As the Warriors Three, Spider-Man, Captain America and Thor have a chance to build a stronger bond than ever - but only if they survive the experience.

Captain America #14 is coming October 30 from Marvel Comics.

Initially debuting in 1940, Captain America is the patriotically themed superhero who has shared the title with only a few individuals. Beginning with Steve Rogers, Captain America's birth resulted from a frail man taking part in an experimental U.S. Army super-soldier trial, which imbued him with super-human abilities. The character is often depicted wielding a nigh unbreakable and aerodynamic shield made of vibranium that they use to defend and attack their foes.
