Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s Polarizing Post-Credits Scene Will Get Answers, Assures MCU Director

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has officially planted another mystery for its massive audience.

Tom Holland finally ended his hiatus from the MCU timeline this summer, following Doctor Strange's game-changing spell at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which forever changed Peter Parker's life, with the world no longer knowing who is underneath the mask. However, while his latest solo adventure has slowly started changing that, it didn't take long for the web-crawler to be left with a new cliffhanger.

In a new interview with The Wrap, Spider-Man: Brand New Day director Destin Daniel Cretton finally opened up about the post-credits scene that has led to a lot of different reactions online. As Ned Leeds' Spidey Tracker app saw the web-crawler suddenly off Earth, the MCU filmmaker promised that the audience “will find out” what that tease actually means. Cretton explained, "I do think it’s frustrating when these things are like left out in the open and you never see them. And ‘Shang-Chi’ is one of those. It’s still hanging out there. I have every intention of answering the question.”

While Holland is never seen in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day post-credits scene, it's unclear what actually happened to the New York hero. Some believe that he is on a mission to space, while others speculate that perhaps this is meant to be a setup for Marvel Studios' Avengers: Doomsday. However, it's crucial to remember that as of writing, it hasn't been confirmed if the MCU veteran is part of the upcoming release.

The teaser is just one of several unanswered questions left from Cretton's latest superhero project. After keeping her character's identity hidden for a year, Sadie Sink was finally revealed as Jean Grey, one of the famous X-Men players, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day serving as the beginning of her origin story.

After Jean saved Peter's life, the last viewers see of her in the Phase 6 installment is the young mutant on a bus leaving New York. But it's unknown where she is actually going, and when the MCU will bring her back. There have been reports that Sink will reprise the role in Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027, but Marvel Studios has yet to confirm or deny her supposed involvement.

Another new character who became part of the Spider-Man: Brand New Day cast is Tramell Tillman's Bill Metzger, a reimagined X-Men villain, who is revealed to be the director of the Department of Damage Control. But as it was revealed that he had very sinister motives, the climax sees Bill having gone missing, leaving the door open for the MCU to continue using him in the future.

As far as the post-credits scene goes, if it is meant to tie into Avengers: Doomsday, it would make sense if the ensemble feature reveals from its point of view how it affects Peter in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Since the majority of Holland's film takes place prior to the events of the new team-up movie, it's possible the Spidey Tracker moment is set during one of the acts in Joe and Anthony Russo's December adventure.
