Spider-Man: Brand New Day's second trailer finally reveals an important truth about Sadie Sink's character and the danger she will cause. Many rumors and scoopers have suggested that Sadie Sink will play Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The idea has been around since Sadie Sink's casting was announced. Other than the MCU introducing the mutants in Avengers: Doomsday, Sink is also the spitting image of the comic book character. Whether or not she plays Jean Grey, though, there was no guarantee whether Sink's character would be on the side of Spider-Man or an enemy.
What's more, Marvel, the trailers, and the actor have confirmed very little direct information about Sink's mysterious character. The official movie description for Spider-Man: Brand New Day says that Spider-Man will have to face “a powerful villain no one can even see.” During an interview back in January, Sink said she’s playing a girl of many faces, which didn't give us much to go on until now. Recently, Spider-Man 4 set photos leaked, showing her wearing a green jacket and a tan hoodie. These key details now make sense.
The little reveals finally seem to be coming together thanks to the new trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
In the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer, a character wearing a jacket and a tan hoodie appears twice and looks remarkably similar to the set leak photo of Sink. A man in a suit, who the trailer subtitles confirm as X-Men villain Bill Metzger, explains to Spider-Man immediately after that shot that they’re facing “a threat we can't control; one we can't even see.” This aligns with Sink's cryptic comment about her character. Then, later in the trailer, we see someone talking to Peter Parker via telepathy and appearing to shapeshift.
Without all the pieces of the puzzle, the trailer says almost nothing about her character. However, when you put it all together, it says a lot. Unless there is some massive misleading going on, we pretty much have a guarantee now that Sadie Sink will play the threat lurking in the shadows. The mysterious individual will be an enemy to Peter Parker, though it's unclear whether they are Spider-Man: Brand New Day's main villain or just a looming threat.
How The Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer Fits The Jean Grey Theory
Even if Sadie Sink is essentially confirmed as the threatening individual in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, there's still no guarantee that the individual is Jean Grey, despite constant rumors. That being said, there is now a ton of evidence that aligns with the theory. Both trailers for Spider-Man: Brand New Day center on Peter Parker undergoing genetic mutations, which would be the perfect opportunity to introduce the X-Men mutant. The description "a threat we can't control" fits Jean Grey perfectly. Even Professor Charles Xavier struggled to control her when she's at full power. He really could only do so when she was young, putting mental blocks in place.
As mentioned, the individual who wears the jacket and hoodie can use telepathy to threaten Spider-Man. They also change shape. The former is one of Jean Grey's key powers. The latter might trip some people up because the character cannot shapeshift. That being said, Jean Grey has used telepathic camouflage and molecular manipulation to appear like she's someone else. This could explain her changing shape in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and it would also fit with the very science-oriented plotline.
The best theory I've seen so far is that Sadie Sink's Jean Grey is a mutant activist who decides to act after learning that Bruce Banner has been researching ways to suppress mutant DNA. Obviously, there is nothing to suggest most of this, other than the fact that Jean Grey is a mutant, and Bruce Banner has created technology to repress his mutant side. However, it's one of the fan theories that could explain how and why Jean Grey would show up in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
