So far, there have been few concrete signs related to Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse's release date. In September, a bombshell report claimed the movie was unlikely to be released before 2027 and that a lot of it had been scrapped for creative reasons. That report was refuted by producer Christopher Miller and composer Daniel Pemberton.

With it now confirmed that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will not be released in 2025, Sony seems to be taking the necessary measures to ensure the film is as great as it can be. The truth of the matter is that the animated film's initial release date was unfeasible. At least, the Spider-Verse franchise has shown that it would have been extremely hard for the studio to meet its intended deadline for the movie. That was also before 2023's Hollywood strikes, which threw the industry into a series of delays.

If the Spider-Verse finale had been released on its original March 29th, 2024, release date, the film would have come out nine months after Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Based on the production timeline between the first and second Spider-Verse movies, that would have been a wildly surprising feat. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse came out in 2018, with its sequel arriving five years later. Even if most of the concept work for the film had been done, with the necessary technologies for the movie's unique animation style developed, the threequel would still realistically need a couple of years to be ready.

Another factor that could have contributed to Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse's delay was a report on its predecessor's working conditions. According to Vulture, over 100 artists left the second movie mid-production due to terrible working conditions, which allegedly included "crunch" and several revisions to scenes. If the report was accurate, it would explain why Sony might have not only removed the film from its original 2024 plans, but also have Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse not release in 2025. If the film moves to 2026, the team behind it would get at least an extra two years to get it ready.

Both Spider-Verse movies have advanced the animation medium in innovative ways while also telling some of the best Spider-Man stories we have ever had outside the comics. As such, I'm not that bothered by the reveal that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will not come out in 2025. After Sony faced issues with its three Spider-Man-related movies in 2024 — Madame Web, Venom: The Last Dance, and Kraven the Hunter — I'm okay with giving the studio as much time as it needs to make sure that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse finds the perfect way to ends Miles Morales' animated story.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is the direct continuation of 2023's Across the Spider-Verse, and is the third film in the Miles Morales animated Spider-Man franchise. Miles continues his interdimensional journey to change the fates of those he loves while finding his own path to become a Spider-Man.
