Spencer Matthews has revealed he believes he loves wife Vogue Williams more than she loves him as he admitted their eight-year marriage is 'far from perfect' and they have 'ups and downs'.

The former Made In Chelsea star, 38, said he is very open with his affection for the Irish presenter, 41, but does not always receive the same treatment in return.

The couple welcomed their fourth child, son Remy Valentine, last month, and Spencer has previously spoken about the challenges of adjusting to life with a newborn.

'I think I love her more than she loves me. I think I'm more obvious with my love and affection for her,' Spencer said on Katherine Ryan's What's My Age Again? podcast on Tuesday.

He added: 'She will occasionally say things to me that I literally can't believe that make me so happy.'

Spencer recalled a rare moment when his wife complimented him shortly after Remy was born.

He said: 'I went and got us a bottle of her favourite champagne for the following day. And a couple of people came around to the hospital. We had a couple of glasses.

'We were very loved up. Obviously, we just had our fourth child. It feels like the kind of family is complete.'

He continued: 'She was saying really lovely stuff to me, about me, which she doesn't do that often.

'I'm not complaining about it either, but she wouldn't just pour admiration into me because I think she thinks that I admire myself enough already.'

Spencer revealed that Vogue had paid him compliments about his parenting, which he appreciated.

'She was just saying lovely things about me being a great father,' he recalled. 'It's the type of stuff that I feel like I say to her a lot - doesn't always come back straight away.'

When asked whether he preferred having a wife who was less affectionate, Spencer replied: 'There's not much about our relationship that I'd change.'

But he added: 'It's far from perfect. We have our ups and downs like any kind of married couple.

'But I think we do have a great relationship. I think I'm certainly very lucky to have her as my partner. No one's disputing that.'

The couple, who met while filming The Jump in 2017 and married in June 2018, also share children Theodore, eight, Gigi, six, and Otto, four.

Last year there was speculation about the state of their marriage, which Vogue has strongly rejected. She said rumours that they were having problems had upset her, particularly as they had been trying for another baby at the time.

Speaking at the time, she said she was hurt by suggestions that a holiday in St Barts had been an attempt to repair their relationship.

'Making amends from what? Where has that come from?' she asked.

Last month, Spencer also described how their sleeping arrangements had changed following Remy's birth, with Vogue sharing a room with the newborn and Spencer sleeping separately with their older sons.

He told his former Made in Chelsea co-star Jamie Laing on the Newly Parents podcast that they both felt 'a bit lonely' and that the arrangement made things feel 'a bit fractured' – although he explained it was intended to help them cope with night feeds and broken sleep.

In his latest interview this week, Spencer also defended his commitment to endurance running, saying he did not believe training took away from his time with Vogue or their children.

'I think I would know if my running or training had a negative impact on my marriage,' he said.

He explained that running approximately 100km (62 miles) a week took him around seven hours, adding: 'I'm not losing time with my wife or kids to train for an hour a day.'

Despite acknowledging that their marriage has had its challenges, Spencer said: 'I do love her enormously. Like, it's a special feeling.'
