SpaceX is hiring a trader to build and lead a natural gas trading team as the company’s fuel and power needs grow, according to job postings. The role covers physical and financial natural gas trading.
SpaceX said earlier this month that it plans to build gas-fired power plants for a large semiconductor manufacturing facility under development in Texas. Rising demand from data centers and new factories has increased interest in gas-fired generation.
The company also plans to build its own gas pipelines and is considering drilling for natural gas, President and Chief Operating Officer Gwynne Shotwell said in June. SpaceX uses super-chilled methane, the main ingredient in natural gas, with liquid oxygen to power its Starship rocket.
The trading role can be based in Cape Canaveral, Florida, or Starbase, Texas, rather than traditional gas hubs such as Houston, Calgary or Stamford. Remote work is not available. SpaceX did not immediately comment.
