Season 29 of South Park premieres on Wednesday, September 16 at 10 p.m. ET on Comedy Central, and begins streaming next day on Paramount+. Last season's finale wasn't the best episode that South Park has ever produced, nor did it even make the top 3 in the ranking of all season 28 episodes. That said, it did resolve the plot concerning Satan and Donald Trump's baby, which was really a storyline that could never work on any show other than South Park.
One of the longtime trademarks of South Park is, of course, how the show manages to mine comedy out of current events a lot faster than other animated comedies, and certainly faster than any live-action comedies other than Saturday Night Live. Episodes are generally produced within a span of just six days, which includes writing and animating them. The timeliness of the comedy certainly helps South Park stand alone, but the show has started releasing fewer and fewer episodes each season.
South Park season 29 will have a slightly longer run than any other season in recent years, and the show could be settling back into a familiar rhythm from the earliest years of the show.
What We Know About South Park Season 29 So Far
Season 29 of South Park will run for six episodes, which makes it one episode longer than both season 27 and season 28. Fans with cable will be able to watch live on Comedy Central, starting on September 16, as usual, while Paramount+ subscribers will have to wait until the next day.
When it comes to the plot of a season of South Park, the quick turnaround for each episode means that late August is likely still too early for many details about the storylines. That said, the season 28 finale went above and beyond just bringing back some iconic South Park characters after more than two decades.
Due to Stan's wish for a Christmas miracle, the South Park version of Jesus eventually came around and restored the Marsh family home to the normality of the pre-Tegridy Farms era. The change was a long time coming, and seems like it will stick thanks to Jesus' intervention. Whatever Trey Parker and Matt Stone come up with in the days between new episodes, they'll presumably include the changes for Stan from the end of season 28.
South Park Season 29's Release Schedule Explained
Comedy Central has confirmed more than just September 16 as the premiere date for South Park's new season. New episodes will continue to release every two weeks, which will stretch the six episodes of season 28 until late November. While this isn't the first time that South Park will go weeks between new installments in a single season, the release window does provide a set schedule for viewers to plan on ahead of time.

Interestingly, the timing of the season 29 finale means that it will air one day before Thanksgiving. If fans are lucky, South Park could be on the verge of delivering a Thanksgiving-themed episode for the second year in a row. Holiday episodes almost always stand out on South Park, and the timing could hardly be better with the season 29 finale. The fourth episode airing close to the end of October could be a good fit for a Halloween installment, but the odds seem better for some Thanksgiving shenanigans for a finale.
For now, fans can start counting down the days until season 29 premieres on September 16. In the meantime, all 28 of South Park's earlier seasons are available streaming on Paramount+.
