Written and directed by husband-and-wife filmmaking team Amanda Drexton and Michael A. Drexton in their feature debut, Sour Party follows Gwen and James, two broke, flailing 30-somethings on a quest to scrounge money from a collection of low lives and failed artists in an attempt to show up to Gwen's sister's baby shower with a proper gift. The comedy stars Samantha Westervelt, Amanda Drexton, Corey Feldman, Douglas Bennett, and Reggie Watts. Steven Soderbergh, who signed on to present the film, shared a statement:
"Sour Party is my favorite kind of indie film success story: a group of artists creating their own opportunity instead of waiting for one to present itself. That kind of indomitable spirit infuses every aspect of this movie, and I also believe the world needs more comedies!"
Sour Party is slated for a global release on all platforms on July 24 through Starboard Entertainment. Decentralized Pictures will release the movie concurrently on their new filmmaker-first Web3 streaming platform, DCP+.
