Sony's Spider-Verse spin-off, Spider-Punk, just got a reassuring update six months after its initial announcement. The project is set to feature the return of Daniel Kaluuya, who voiced the character in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and will reprise the role in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. So far, Spider-Punk is in early development, and no release date has been announced.

For those unfamiliar with the character, Spider-Punk (aka Hobie Brown) is a Spider-Man variant from New London (aka Earth-138) and got his powers three years before the events of Across the Spider-Verse. He immediately became a fan favorite for his aesthetic, personality, and friendship with Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) and Miles Morales (Shameik Moore). At the moment, the plot for the Spider-Punk spin-off has yet to be revealed, and it's currently unknown where in the Spider-Verse timeline it will take place, especially as he joins Gwen and her allies as they prepare to save Miles across the multiverse.

At the moment, the only other name attached to the Spider-Punk spin-off is co-writer Ajon Singh, and it's unknown whether other Spider-Verse characters will make an appearance. Back in December, Kaluuya revealed that the script's first draft is in its "finishing stages" and says that the spin-off will "build upon the character Kaluuya played in 2023's Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse." In a recent report, Sony gave an update on the project. Sony Pictures Animation President Kristine Belson provided a vague yet reassuring update on the upcoming spin-off, noting that it's still in development but not much more. It's not just the Spider-Punk spin-off that Sony is working on. She also reveals that the studio is actively working on a Spider-Gwen spin-off.

"I'm not allowed to say. But we are active on both."

What's the Latest Update on 'Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse'?

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is the third installment of Sony's Spider-Verse films, where it's set to continue where Across the Spider-Verse left off, where Gwen, Hobie, Pavitr Prabhakar (Karan Soni), Margo/Spider-Byte (Amandla Stenberg), Peni (Kimiko Glenn), Spider-Noir (Nicholas Cage), Spider-Ham (John Mulaney), and Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson), and his daughter Mayday travel to Earth-42 to save Miles as he was sent to the wrong universe.

In August 2025, it was teased that Beyond the Spider-Verse had entered production, as Moore shared on social media that he had begun recording his lines for the upcoming film. But at the same time, Beyond the Spider-Verse faced delays: it was initially scheduled for 2024, but the release was pushed to 2025 due to production changes and the SAG-AFTRA strikes. However, its release date was moved again, and it is now scheduled for June 20, 2027.
