Sonic X Shadow Generations: How To Beat Death Egg Robot

2 days ago 9

The first boss you'll encounter in Sonic X Shadow Generations is the Death Egg Robot, a mechanical machination created by Dr. Robotnik to take down Sonic and his friends. Dr. Robotnik's creation challenges you in traditional Sonic fashion; you'll face it in a side-scrolling showdown. While this fight initially seems simple, it quickly evolves into a tricky encounter.

Before you can even fight the Death Egg Robot, you'll need to unlock it. Sonic X Shadow Generations is a time-traveling look at the many eras of Sonic's games, so the Death Egg Robot, who was also included in the Sonic 2 movie, is just one of a few returning Sonic bosses that you'll be facing. Once you get used to the controls, forage ahead to unlock the game's very first boss encounter.

How To Unlock The Death Egg Boss Fight

The Final Boss Of Era One

The Death Egg Robot from Sonic X Shadow Generations

To unlock the boss gate that the Death Egg Robot hides behind, you'll first need to collect three boss keys. These keys can be collected from defeating challenge acts, which will pop up after the boss gate shows up. The boss gate should appear after you beat acts one and two in the first three stages.

After you beat these six stages (Stage 1, Act 1; Stage 1, Act 2; Stage 2, Act 1; Stage 2, Act 2; Stage 3, Act 1; Stage 3, Act 2,) the boss gate will appear. You can pick any three challenge acts from any of the three stages you've reached so far. As long as you complete them and gain your boss key, you'll be able to bring three of them back to open the Death Egg Robot boss gate.

Death Egg Boss Stats & Attacks

For Boss One, Keep Things Simple

As the first boss, the Death Egg Robot is a pretty simple boss fight. You'll watch a quick cutscene, then it's right into the fight, which you can watch in full on YouTube thanks to ShackNews. Across its two phases, there are only really three things you'll need to look out for:

Attack

Description

Targeting Hand Slam

A targeting reticle will follow Sonic around the stage, stilling right before it shoots out to slam into the space it targeted.

Jump Slam

After a few hand slams, the robot will jump up relatively slowly and then slam back down, aiming to crush Sonic underfoot.

Bombs

These aren't really an attack; they're more of a stage hazard. Keep an eye out for them, and don't run into any bombs.

In the robot's first phase, you'll need to avoid both the hand and jump slam attacks. Both are really obviously telegraphed, so you shouldn't have too hard of a time avoiding them; just move out of the way before they hit. The bombs, as mentioned, don't "attack" you but can still deal some nasty damage if you run into them at the wrong time. You'll see the hand slam attack for the whole fight, but the jump attack will only be an issue for phase one.

How To Defeat The Death Egg

Do What Sonic Does Best: Hit And Run

Phase two of the death egg robot fight in sonic x shadow generations

As mentioned, the Death Egg Robot fight has two phases. In the first phase, you'll need to dodge both the Hand Slam Attack and Jump Slam attack. The first attack can be baited by standing still, then dodging as the hand is on the way to the targeted position. The jump slam is really slow, and you should dodge it to end up behind the robot when it lands. Once it lands, smack the green and black underbelly of the robot, similar to the way you take down Bowser in Super Mario Odyssey. You'll need to do this twice to take it to phase two.

Phase two is a bit bigger in scale, but the general tempo of the fight is the same. In this phase, you must hit the blue buttons stationed around the arena to prime bombs. Then, bait the hand slam attack to hit one of the bombs. The hand will be stunned, allowing you to jump on top of it, run up the arm, and smack the robot right in the head. Do this two more times, and the fight will be yours.

Suppose you can try to trigger the bombs that spawn lower. This will make the arm's stun position much more accessible to jump onto.

The Death Egg Robot is only the first boss in Sonic X Shadow Generations and is also the simplest. As long as you've got a basic grasp of the run, dodge, spin, and attack controls, you should have no issue completing this boss within a reasonable amount of time. Now, you're ready to move on to era two, exploring more of the nostalgic world of the game and looking deeper into who Shadow is and his return.
