The chances of Knuckles season 2 appear unlikely, with one of the series' stars offering a disappointing update about the future of the popular Sonic the Hedgehog spinoff.
Following the massive success of Paramount's live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movies, the franchise expanded onto streaming in 2024 with Knuckles, a six-episode Paramount+ series centered on Idris Elba's fan-favorite echidna warrior. The series followed Knuckles as he trained Wade Whipple (Adam Pally) in the ways of the Echidna warrior while battling new enemies and adapting to life on Earth.
Speaking with The Direct, Pally addressed the possibility of Knuckles season 2, revealing that another season was never necessarily part of the original plan. Read his comments below:
It was a limited series, so… I don't know if that was ever truly in the cards. But I do know that the franchise is strong and running on a full tank of gas, so to speak. There's a lot of plans and surprises.
While Knuckles was marketed as a limited series when it premiered, the show's strong performance led many viewers to believe additional seasons could eventually happen, especially as studios increasingly revisit successful streaming projects regardless of their original format.

At the time, Paramount positioned Knuckles as a major expansion of the growing Sonic cinematic universe. The show became one of Paramount+'s most successful original releases, generating strong viewership and helping maintain momentum for the franchise.

Pally’s comments about the expanding franchise ring true, as what began as a single video game adaptation has grown into one of Hollywood's most successful family-friendly franchises. The first Sonic movie overcame significant skepticism following its infamous design controversy to become a box office hit in 2020. Following installments only increased the franchise's popularity, introducing beloved characters like Knuckles, Tails, and Shadow while steadily expanding its world.
Knuckles’ success also demonstrated that audiences were willing to follow the franchise beyond the theatre. Although reviews were somewhat mixed, many viewers embraced the show's comedic tone and its focus on the unlikely partnership between Knuckles and Wade. Elba's performance as the stoic warrior remained a highlight, while Pally's comedic energy helped carry much of the series.
For now, Pally's comments suggest fans should not expect a Knuckles season 2 announcement anytime soon. However, the future of the Sonic universe is far from slowing down. While Knuckles may not be getting another solo season, the franchise itself appears poised to continue expanding, ensuring that audiences haven't seen the last of Sega's iconic blue hedgehog and his growing ensemble of allies.
