Season 3 is taking much longer than previous installments of the popular anime

One of the hottest anime of the past few years, Solo Leveling, has an unconfirmed release window for its much-anticipated third season. As spotted by ScreenRant, webtoon publishing company D&C Media, owner of the Solo Leveling IP, might have spoiled info about season 3 of the anime in its latest quarterly earnings.

According to an automated translation, a section of the earnings document regarding the Solo Leveling anime states, "Anime Season 3 confirmed (expected 2027–2028)." This could be big news for fans of the series, especially as we are less than a month away from Anime Expo 2026, where an official announcement could be shared. However, if the information in the D&C Media documents is reliable, then work on season 3 of Solo Leveling is not proceeding as quickly as fans would have hoped.

Solo Leveling season 1 came out in January 2024, followed by season 2 exactly one year later. This is a fast turnaround time for anime, no matter how successful the property is. The reality of the industry is that studios are busy working on multiple series at the same time, which causes understandable delays. A-1 Pictures, the animation studio behind Solo Leveling, only released two movies (one of which it co-produced) after season 2 of the show came out in January 2025, making fans hopeful that the studio was pouring all its resources into the third season.

However, an "expected 2027-2028" release window likely means that not a lot of work, if any, has been done on Solo Leveling season 3. A-1 Pictures has three anime already announced for 2026 and 2027, meaning they will also be busy with other projects. If Solo Leveling season 3 really comes out in 2028, that means a break of three years from the series' latest installment, confirming that the quick pace of the first two seasons was an exception, not the norm.

Still, this is all speculation at this stage. Fans should keep their eyes peeled for Anime Expo 2026 on July 2-5: if there are any updates to share on Solo Leveling, that will be the perfect stage for them. Meanwhile, fans can watch Overgeared, an upcoming new anime based on a webcomic drawn by the Solo Leveling studio Redice.
