Solange Knowles has opened up about a 'devastating' injury that ruined her dream of becoming dancer as she posed topless for an edgy photoshoot to mark her 40th birthday.

The singer, who is the younger sister of Beyoncé Knowles, 44, was on tour with her sibling's band Destiny's Child in 2000 as a back-up dancer and had dreams of going to the prestige New York dance school Juilliard, before the injury forced her to change her plans.

She explained how she was roped her in during a difficult time for the group, who were managed by dad Matthew, after Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin replaced former members LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson.

Soon Farrah also left before Destiny's Child would go to to become a huge success as a trio with Beyoncé, Michelle and Kelly Rowland.

Speaking to AnOther Magazine she said: 'I wanted to be a dancer. I wanted to go to Juilliard and be a contemporary, modern dancer. I wanted to use my body to tell stories. I had gone on tour dancing for Destiny’s Child about a year and a half prior, and that wasn’t part of the plan.

'One of their dancers had gotten pregnant and Michelle was freshly in the group, and they needed a dancer to keep the symmetry of the staging so she could feel comfortable'.

Solange said that during the tour she tore her meniscus with doctors telling her she would not be able to dance for a 'couple of years'.

A meniscus is a C-shaped piece of tough, rubbery cartilage acting as a shock absorber between the shinbone and thighbone in the knee and requires a long recovery.

'It was a total devastation for me. I’d had my life planned out. And in order for me to get into Juilliard I needed to be able to go to a certain high school and audition, and now I would no longer be able to do that'.

Then finding herself stuck on tour with her leg in a cast that Solange said she put all her pent up emotion into songwriting and two years later she released her first album.

Since then she's gone on to drop a further three albums, headline tours and appear in movies and TV including 2006's Bring It On: All or Nothing.

Meanwhile Destiny's Child announced their disbandment in 2005 during the middle of their world tour, with lead singer Beyoncé  going solo.

But fans are convinced that the band might finally be coming back together after a new picture was posted by Beyoncé father.

The girls have remained close since the split, even reuniting for a performance of Beyonce's final night of her Cowboy Carter tour in July 2025.

The ladies enjoyed a surprise reunion moment, wearing chaps, glitter and gold.

Over the weekend, Mathew shared a picture of the ladies all together again on a boat, simply captioning it: 'With the ladies.'

Mathew was the creator and manager of the group when they formed in Houston, Texas, back in the 1990s.

She wore her lightened locks up in a high ponytail and completed her look with red catseye sunglasses and statement earrings.

Kelly, 45, wore a blue and white silk patterned co-ord, while Michelle, 46, wore a cream striped dress which had a keyhole detail at the front as they posed with their arms around Mathew.

Fans wrote in the comments: 'Dear Mr. Knowles…We need a Destiny Child’s reunion tour very soon…Please and Thank you ❤️Sincerely AP.'

'Matthew what are you trying to tell us...DC3.' [sic]

'Could DC3 be coming back?'

Last week, Kelly left her followers in hysterics as she roasted Beyonce's pronounciation of one particular word in a new social media clip.

The Destiny's Child star shared her playful reaction to Beyonce's use of the word 'algebra' in her song 1+1, during an interview with Scott Evans for his House Guest series.

Asking her to finish the lyric, Scott began singing: 'Okay I don't know much about algebra,' before Kelly cut in laughing and said: 'It's algeba, she didn't pronounce it R, I love it. She'll save that R for another day.'

Laughing, Scott then added: 'She said ''sing it right. Sing it like they wrote it.'' before delivering his own rendition of the line.

In the lyric in question, Beyonce sang: 'I don't know much about algebra, but I know one plus one equals two.'

Fans shared their amusement at the clip in the comments, writing: 'Also consider Kelly prolly the only one that can get away with this kinda shade cus it's love lol;

'Me realising now that she said ''algebaa; I mean... she did say she didn't know much about it;

'They've been family for so long she sounds like B... I love them; You definitely know this is an inside joke for them.'
