Soccer Player Héctor Bello's Wife Andrea Dies Saving Daughter During Venezuela Earthquakes
Lucas Trejo is facing an unimaginable loss.
The soccer player's wife Yanina Maranella and their two children Aarón Trejo and Ainhoa Trejo were among the more than 1,400 people killed in the devastating twin earthquakes that rocked Venezuela June 24, his football club confirmed.
"In this moment of immense pain," C.S. Marítimo de La Guaira—which Trejo joined in February—shared on Instagram June 28 in Spanish, "we raise our prayers for the eternal rest of their souls and for the strength of Lucas and his loved ones to face this tragedy."
The football club also shared a message of support for the 38-year-old, who was in Caracas for a training camp with his teammates during the natural disaster.
"Lucas, you're not alone," the post continued. "Your family at Marítimo La Guaira is with you. We accompany you with all our hearts, with respect, unity and solidarity. From the club, your teammates, technical staff and directors: we send you a fraternal embrace."
Trejo had rushed back to his family at their home in La Guaira, the state most affected by the consecutive 7.2-magnitude and 7.5-magnitude earthquakes.
"What he found was a horrific scene," his brother-in-law Ricardo Ardils told CNN Español June 26. "He found absolutely nothing of what the building itself had been. Our hope is that they weren't in there."
While it was unclear whether his family was inside their apartment when the earthquakes shook the Latin American country, according to Ardils, Trejo spent hours removing debris from the area.
Former soccer player Edson Tortolero—who assisted Trejo with the 72-hour search—paid tribute to his family after the recovery and promised to care for his friend.

"I say goodbye," he wrote in Spanish on Instagram June 28, alongside a group photo of his and Trejo's families smiling. "I'm sure that someday we will see each other again to celebrate another star. Thank you for everything. Here, we will be taking care and watching Luquera as he has been watching us since we met."
"God welcomes you with open arms, wonderful family," Tortolero—who last played for Carabobo F.C. until 2006—concluded. "We pray for eternal life, beautiful angels. Faith and hope are the last things you should lose in life. We get up again and keep going."
Among those impacted by the tragedy include fellow soccer player Héctor Bello, whose wife Andrea Bello died while shielding their 20-month-old baby girl Alana.
"You'll always be our favorite hero, Mommy," Héctor wrote on Instagram June 26. "I'm going to make sure our baby remembers how wonderful you were, how much you loved her."
