Snowy Broadway Cancels Performances For Second Consecutive Evening: ‘Every Brilliant Thing’, ‘Harry Potter And The Cursed Child’ Among Freeze-Outs

For the second, consecutive blizzard-impacted day, Broadway has canceled all evening performances for Monday, February 23.

While most productions typically go dark on Mondays anyway, some shows do have Monday performances. Not tonight though.

Shows canceling due to the February 22 snowstorm and the more than a foot of the white stuff still on the ground in NYC are Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Chicago, Every Brilliant Thing, The Great Gatsby and Six. (Chicago has added a Thursday, March 5, matinee at 2 p.m. to make up for the missed performance).

Every Brilliant Thing, by the way, stars Daniel Radcliffe, filmdom’s not-so-cursed Harry Potter himself.

The Broadway League made the cancelation announcement this afternoon. “Due to the continuing impacts from the blizzard and local travel restrictions still in place, Broadway theatre owners and producers have come to the consensus that performances tonight (Monday, February 23) will be canceled,” the League stated.

Ticketholders, including those with Chicago tickets, are advised to directly contact their point of purchase for exchange or refund policies.

On Sunday, as the winter weather intensified throughout the afternoon and NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced a nighttime and Monday morning citywide travel ban, Broadway canceled evening performances (Sunday matinees went on as planned). Operation Mincemeat held out until the longest, with producers hoping to proceed with a Sunday night show that would have marked the final performance of the musical’s original British cast; eventually the performance was canceled, with the cast performing a livestream concert version instead.

Mincemeat‘s American replacement cast begins performances Tuesday.

Also in New York today, ABC’s live daytime talk shows Live With Kelly And Mark and The View were broadcast without the usual studio audiences.
