Warning! This article contains spoilers for Hugh Howey's Silo books.
The Silo franchise has been growing from strength to strength in popularity and acclaim, but a new update from the original author, Hugh Howey, suggests its future will be all the more exciting and expansive. Hugh Howey started the Silo universe in 2011 with a short story, titled "Wool," which paved the way for a full-fledged novel that has now been adapted by the Apple TV+ sci-fi show's first two seasons. What started as a novella soon became an acclaimed book series, exploring the fascinating depths and grim realities of a fictional post-apocalyptic world.
Given how the three books in Hugh Howey's Silo trilogy, Wool, Shift, and Dust, walk through a well-rounded story, the Apple TV+ series will end its run after it has adapted its source material's content. However, a new update surrounding the books suggests that the Silo franchise will be far from over even after the show reaches its conclusion. The original books' original author, Hugh Howey, has offered some intriguing insights into where the franchise could progress, promising a great future for the books and the TV series.
Hugh Howey Is Working On Another Trilogy Set In The Silo Universe
The New Trilogy Will Focus On Silo 40
In a recent AMA (via Reddit), Hugh Howey disclosed that he is not yet done with the Silo series. The author confirmed that he has planned another trilogy that begins before the events of the first book, Wool, and extends beyond the third novel, Dust, of the original series. He also revealed the new trilogy is set to follow the events of Silo 40, which is one of the 50 underground structures featured in the author's original Silo books. Although other story details surrounding the project remain under wraps, Wool, Shift, and Dust have mentioned Silo 40 on more than one occasion.

While Silo 18 and 17's struggles against the overarching oppressive system are fascinating to follow, the new trilogy seems even more intriguing as it promises to add many new characters to the mix and also paves the way for the franchise to explore humanity's undying spirit to survive, thrive, and seek freedom in the face of danger.
The New Trilogy Means Apple TV+'s Silo Will Not End After Four Seasons
Hugh Howey's New Book Series Could Be The Perfect Spin-Off To The Apple TV+ Show
It has been confirmed (via Apple TV+ Press) that Silo's seasons 3 and 4 will complete the story of Hugh Howey's three-party book series. However, if the author writes the new trilogy, the Apple TV+ show could also continue its run with a new spin-off focusing on the events of Silo 40. Since Howey has planned three new books, even the spin-off could have a four-season run like the parent series.
