Silo Cast & Character Guide

From blockbuster stars to fan-favorite TV actors, the cast of Silo is filled with great performers that are recognizable from other projects. Based on the Silo books by Hugh Howey, the Apple TV+ series takes place in a distant dystopian future and revolves around a community living deep underground under the enforcement of strict rules that they’re told have been put in place to protect them. As the story unfolds, an engineer and a sheriff attempt to uncover the dark truth about their underground existence. The series was developed for television by Graham Yost of the Justified fame.

As promised by the trailer for Silo, the show's star-studded ensemble includes familiar actors from other television series and from high-profile movies. The main cast members can be spotted in the films Dune, The Social Network, and The Shawshank Redemption, while the supporting players can be seen in the shows Game of Thrones, Succession, and The Walking Dead. With a star from Parks and Recreation, a major player from the Mission: Impossible franchise, and the actor who played Martin Luther King Jr. on the big screen, Silo is full of familiar faces.

Rebecca Ferguson As Juliette

Actor: Ferguson got her start with the role of Anna Gripenhielm in the Swedish soap opera Nya Tider. She then gained international attention with her turn as Elizabeth Woodville in the limited series The White Queen, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe. Ferguson has since gone on to play MI6 agent Ilsa Faust in the Mission: Impossible movies, Jenny Lind in The Greatest Showman, Rose the Hat in Doctor Sleep, and Lady Jessica in both halves of Denis Villeneuve's Dune.

Although she initially lives in the lower levels of the silo, she makes her way to the top floors after being appointed as the new Sheriff. David Oyelowo As Holston

Actor: The actor is best known for playing Martin Luther King Jr. in the historically accurate biopic Selma. He also played Louis Gaines in The Butler, Seretse Khama in A United Kingdom, and Steven Jacobs in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. His other TV roles include Javert in the BBC miniseries adaptation of Les Misérables and MI5 officer Danny Hunter in the spy drama series Spooks. In his long acting career, Oyelowo has received a Critics Choice Award and two NAACP Image Awards.

Actor: Common debuted with the album Can I Borrow a Dollar? and gained further recognition with his follow-up, Resurrection. He made his big-screen acting debut as mob enforcer Sir Ivy in Smokin’ Aces. Common went on to play roles like the underrated villain Cassian in John Wick: Chapter 2, Turner Lucas in American Gangster, and John Connor’s lieutenant, Barnes, in Terminator Salvation. He also starred as Elam Ferguson in the AMC Western series Hell on Wheels and portrayed James Bevel in Selma alongside David Oyelowo and won an Oscar for co-writing the song "Glory" for the movie.

Character: Sims is Bernard's right-hand man in Silo, who even crosses many moral boundaries to ensure order is maintained in the underground bunker. Since Juliette defies Bernard's orders and attempts to seek the truth, Sims does his best to catch her before it is too late. However, towards the end of Silo season 1, he starts questioning whether his loyalty towards Bernard was worth it.

Tim Robbins As Bernard

Actor: Robbins is best known for playing Andy Dufresne in the prison drama The Shawshank Redemption. He won the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Dave Boyle in Mystic River. Character: In Silo season 1, Tim Robbin's Bernard is the primary antagonist who is initially portrayed as the IT head. However, as the show progresses and Bernard takes over as the silo's new mayor, it becomes evident that the IT has way more power than it appears to have. Although Bernard initially seems friendly and poses as Juliette's ally, he shows his true colors in the show's final arc.

Avi Nash as Lukas Kyle

Actor: I.T. worker Lukas Kyle is played by Avi Nash. Nash is most famous for his recurring role as Siddiq in The Walking Dead. His acting career has been mostly short with most of his success coming on the small screen. Before he played Siddiq in The Walking Dead, he also played Wajeed in Silicon Valley and had an appearance on Black Mirror in 2023 ("Joan is Awful"). As for movies, he appeared in Amateur Night, The Braid, and Netflix’s 2016 Barack Obama biopic, Barry.

Character: Lukas Kyle worked for the IT Department in the silo as a systems analyst. In the first season of SIlo, Lukas develops a friendship with Juliette, and he reveals a lot that is going on in the silo to her while they spend time in the cafeteria at night together. However, when Juliette came to him for help, he rejected her because he was the only person there who could help care for his mother. He remains in the main silo in season 2 while Juliette has escaped.

Chinaza Uche as Paul Billings

Actor: Chinaza Uche appears in the Silo cast as Paul Billings, who works in the silo’s judicial department. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Uche is best known for playing Henry, the family’s hired hand, in Dickinson. He also played Derek in Fear the Walking Dead, Shawn in The Devil Below, and Nathan in the Zach Braff drama movie A Good Person. He has also appeared in TV shows like Law & Order, The Blacklist, Deception, and Blue Bloods.

Character: Paul Billings was a former deputy working in the Mids before transferring to Judicial. Paul wanted to return to the Sheriff's Department but was passed over for Juliette. He is also a tragic character, as he suffers from the Syndrome but hides it since he would no longer be allowed to hold an official office if anyone found out. This brought drama between them when she found out he was infected and was hiding it.

Harriet Walter as Martha Walker

Actor: A veteran engineer character in Silo. Harriet Walter’s other TV roles include Lady Caroline Collingwood, the cold mother of Kendall, Roman, and Siobhan who is a rather estranged member of the Roy family on Succession. She also played Dasha on Killing Eve and Deborah on Ted Lasso. Her movie roles include Emily Tallis in Atonement, Nicole de Buchard in The Last Duel, and Dr. Kalonia in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Character: Martha Walker is an electrical engineer in the Down Deep and was there to help teach Juliette things about how the Silo was run when she joined up with her as a child. She mostly served as the closest thing that Juliette had to a mother as she was growing up and mostly secluded herself from the world for 25 years after her marriage to Carla (Claire Perkins) ended. By the end of the first season, Martha was shocked that Juliette chose to go outside.

Rick Gomez as Patrick Kennedy

Actor: Black marketeer Patrick Kennedy is played by Rick Gomez. The actor previously played Radio Technician 4th Grade George Luz in the cast of HBO’s Band of Brothers and “Endless Mike” Hellstrom in Nickelodeon’s The Adventures of Pete and Pete. He also played Tom Dowd in Ray and Klump in Sin City, and he voiced Loki in the direct-to-video Marvel animated movie Thor: Tales of Asgard.

Character: Patrick Kennedy worked in maintenance and painted walls. He was also a criminal who dealt in forbidden Relics. When Silo started, he held a grudge against Deputy Sam Marnes, who he blamed for his wife's death. Judicial agent Douglas Trumbull tried to frame Patrick for Sam's murder, but this went wrong, and Juliette ended up protecting Patrick and exposing Trumbull's actions.

Steve Zahn As Solo

Actor: Steve Zahn plays the only announced new season 2 Silo character, Solo. Zahn has been acting since 1990, starting in the world of independent movies alongside his theater friends, Ethan Hawke and Robert Sean Leonard. After breaking out in films like Reality Bites and Happy, Texas, Zahn developed his reputation for playing a slacker, which helped him enjoy a hugely successful career. His role in Silo seems to play into both his prototypical persona but also with a dark twist.

Character: Very little was known about Silo season 2 before it premiered in November 2024, but the one new character who was revealed was Solo, played by Steve Zahn. The entire premiere of the second season saw Juliette finding a second silo. The people in this silo rebelled and forced their way outside, where they all died. After getting past the bodies and into the now abandoned silo, she meets its sole survivor, Solo, and he in no way wants her there.

Rashida Jones as Allison: Rashida Jones appears in the Silo cast as Holston’s wife, Allison. Jones’s previous TV roles include Louisa Fenn on Boston Public, Karen Filippelli on The Office, Ann Perkins on Parks and Recreation, and the title character on Angie Tribeca. She has also played such film roles as Marylin Delpy in The Social Network, Zooey Rice in I Love You, Man, and Celeste Martin in Celeste and Jesse Forever, which she also co-wrote with Will McCormack.

Iain Glen as Dr. Pete Nichols - Ian Glen previously played Ser Jorah Mormont in Game of Thrones, Sir Richard Carlisle in Downton Abbey, and Bruce Wayne in the HBO Max superhero series Titans. On the big screen, Glen played Manfred Powell in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Dr. Alexander Isaacs in the Resident Evil movie franchise.

Ferdinand Kingsley as George Wilkins - Kingsley is recognizable from his film roles as Hamza Bey in Dracula Untold and Irving Thalberg in Mank as well as his TV roles as Mr. Francatelli in Victoria and Hob Gadling in The Sandman.

Shane McRae as Knox - A mechanic character in Silo. McRae is best known for playing the main role of Taylor Bowman in Sneaky Pete, as well as the recurring roles of Robert in The Following and Patrick in Nashville. In movies, McRae played Raleigh Leefolt in The Help, Charlie Howland-Jones in Still Alice, and Adrian Troussant in The Adjustment Bureau.

Matt Gomez Hidaka as Cooper - Matt Gomez Hidaka appears in the Silo cast as Cooper. Hidaka also played Miguel Reyes in the crime drama series Chicago P.D. and Mario Hernandez in the family comedy Carlos Through the Tall Grass.

Lee Drage as Franky Brown - Franky Brown is played by Lee Drage, whose previous roles include Freddie in the TV series Missing Something and Jake in the short film 833.

Henry Garrett as Douglas Trumbull - Henry Garrett plays Douglas Trumbull in the Silo cast. Garrett also played Hart in Red Tails, George Catlin in Testament of Youth, and the recurring roles of Pete McCullough in The Son and Captain Malcolm McNeil in Poldark.

Will Merrick as Danny - Merrick is best known for his performance as Alo Creevey in the third generation of the British teen drama Skins. He also played Jay in the time-traveling romantic comedy About Time and Mark in the Netflix horror film A Classic Horror Story.

Paul Herzberg as Kilroy - Paul Herzberg appears in the Silo cast as Kilroy. Herzberg also played Jacob Tanios in the “Dumb Witness” episode of Agatha Christie’s Poirot, Villem Craven in the BBC miniseries adaptation of Smiley’s People, and Private Reynolds in the made-for-TV Dirty Dozen sequel The Dirty Dozen: Next Mission.
