‘Yellowstone’ Ends With This Shocking Major Character Death

Cowboys don't say goodbye...until they're in that f--king dirt. So safe to say both Kevin Costner and costar Wes Bentley have officially rode off into the sunset following their time on Paramount's runaway hit Yellowstone

Before the fifth (and final) season finale spelled the untimely end for Bentley's Jamie Dutton—with step-sister Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) getting her promised revenge for his culpability in the murder of their father John Dutton (Costner)—the actor shared he was open to continuing his time in the Yellowstone Cinematic Universe.

With more rumored spinoffs in the mix, "I’d be interested," Bentley told The Hollywood Reporter, careful not to spoil Jamie's shocking murder. "It’s a very hard character to play but if asked to carry on, I would do so. It’s been great to work with [creator] Taylor [Sheridan], so anything in his universe."

However, as someone who'd spent the whole of his career on film sets before booking the surprise smash seven years back, he noted, "I’d be excited to also move on in life and see what’s next for me out there."

Costner, similarly, was ready to strip off his boots, confirming his exit from Dutton Ranch this summer after more than a year of speculation.

"I just wanted to reach out and let you know that, after this long year-and-a-half of working on Horizon, and doing all the things that that's required," he said in a June 20 Instagram video, referencing parts one and two of his epic western, "and thinking about Yellowstone—that beloved series that I love, that I know you love—I just realized that I am not going to be able to continue season 5B, or into the future."

And while creator Sheridan admitted he was "disappointed" to have Costner tip his hat for the final time, he's hardly the first star to mosey away from a major role.

Check out the other stars who shocked (and, in some cases, devastated) fans with their early exits from the small screen.
