'She was absolutely furious last time': Emily Atack is 'holding back on signing up to Inbetweeners reboot five years after James Buckley engineered reunion snub'

Emily Atack is said to be holding back from signing up to the Inbetweeners reboot after she was snubbed from the first two films.

It was widely reported at the time that her co-star James Buckley had issued an 'its her or me warning' after they previously shared 'a couple of cheeky snogs'.

Jay, who plays Jay Cartwright, was apparently concerned that working with Emily would cause problems at home with his wife Clair Meek.

So Emily, 36, wasn't included in the original reboot and is believed to still be 'furious' over the ordeal, which is affecting her decision to sign on to the new film.

A source told the Sun: 'She hasn't forgotten what happened last time. She was absolutely furious that she wasn't invited back for the previous Inbetweeners reunion, and she has never really got over the way she felt she was treated.'

'Emily's attitude is basically, 'Why do you want me now when I wasn't good enough then?' 'Emily and James Buckley have history, and there is no getting away from the fact that it would be awkward having to work closely together again.'

Daily Mail have contacted Emily's representatives for comment. 

While there have been whispers in the past about a reboot, it was recently reported that the four main actors, namely Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison have all signed on the dotted line to star in a third movie for Netflix.

Streaming bosses apparently aren't satisfied with just the main men returning - they also want to see Emily reprise her role as Charlotte 'Big Jugs' Hinchcliffe.

The Sun said at the time that all four of the main actors were 'thrilled' to be asked back, but noted that things would be a bit harder for Emily to commit to a reboot movie considering everything she's got going on at the moment.

In 2019, Emily was reportedly axed from the Inbetweeners reunion after James told producers 'it's her or me' following a past fling they had when they were both single.

Reports suggested at the time that James was afraid his wife, would find out about the brief relationship they had during their days in the show during 2008 to 2010.

As well as starring in Disney series Rivals, Emily is in the process of making a new programme for the BBC called Reputation.

She's also waiting to find out whether or not ITV will commission a second series of Nobody's Fool - the game show she hosts with Rivals castmate Danny Dyer.

If filming on the Inbetweeners kicks off soon, the results could air as early as 2027, the source added.

Emily has been asked about a potential Inbetweeners return on numerous occasions in the past, telling Capital FM recently: 'I don't know. We'd all be quite a lot older now.

'What was quite funny was when we filmed the series I was only 17, I'd just left school, but the boys were well into... I think they were in their late twenties, early thirties.'

It comes after last month bride-to-be Emily joked that she'd had 'enough rosé to last a lifetime' as she posed in a bikini and a veil in fun-filled snaps from her Cannes hen weekend.

The mother-of-one looked incredible in a black two-piece as she posed in front of a mirror before topping up her tan in the sunshine.

She also showed off her golden glow in a white bikini and cover up by Agent Provocateur while living it up with her friends ahead of her wedding to Alistair Garner in Spain in September.

The Rivals star had a very stylish wardrobe in tow, enjoying walks in a golden satin co-ord with a novelty veil on her head. 

And her group of friends tucked into countless bottles of Lady A rosé and enjoyed an incredible spread of food.

She wrote: 'The most insanely perfect few days. Pure joy from start to finish and enough @drinkladya to last us a lifetime.

'I thoroughly recommend having a hen do even if you aren't getting married btw. It's the most fun you'll ever have losing all of your belongings.'

Emily had about 20 friends with her on her hen, with the group all featuring in photos together.  

A few days before, Emily shared another batch of photos and posed in her sparkly rainbow sequinned dress and veil. 

Emily got engaged to scientist Alistair Garner in July 2025, after they welcomed their son Barney the previous year.

James announced this week that he is at high risk of a cardiovascular incident due to a genetic condition.

He revealed that he was taken to hospital for severe dehydration after his blood tests revealed his risks come from him having high Lipoprotein(a), a genetically inherited type of blood cholesterol which promotes faster plaque buildup in arteries.

Just days after his health admission, James appeared in high-spirits as he filmed new scenes for Harlan Coben's Netflix drama The Woods in Cheshire.

James' reveal saw him explain he has the disease, which promotes plaque buildup in arteries, increases inflammation and increases the risk of blood clotting.

It affects roughly one in five people worldwide, typically presenting no physical symptoms until a cardiovascular event occurs.
