Animal Crossing New Horizons characters with diana in the front

All one Animal Crossing: New Horizons player wanted was a candid photo of one of their villagers, but the villager had other plans. In the cozy Nintendo title, villagers can often be spotted interacting with various items in the environment. This makes it possible for players to snap some great photo-ops among their decorated islands, for some sweet memories with their favorite characters.

Reddit user songofbrokenpines69 was trying to do just that with the white-furred snooty deer villager, Diana. What they got, instead, was a hilarious interaction that made them wonder why Diana seemed to dislike them so much. The user states that this isn't the first time they've tried to get a cute photo of Diana "on parts of my island I worked so hard on," but it will be their final attempt as they simply "accept the fact that she hates me forever."

Diana Doesn't Care For Paparazzi In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

The Animal Crossing Villager Makes This Player Wonder Why She Hates Them

The video the player shares to Reddit shows Diana sitting and relaxing under a snow-covered cherry tree in a cozy raised area on the player's island. They walk up to the villager and quickly activate the camera app, as Diana even seems to settle further into her relaxation by closing her eyes. As soon as the camera is set up and the player walks out of the frame, though, Diana makes it clear that she disapproves of paparazzi as she immediately stands up and walks away.

To add insult to injury, the moment Diana walks off, a green balloon slowly drifts into the empty camera shot for perfect comedic timing. The player then runs back into the frame, faces the camera, and heaves a heavy, disappointed sigh.

Animal Crossing Has Been Around For 23 Years, But Some Fans Miss The Original Interactions With Villagers

Animal Crossing is celebrating its 23rd anniversary, but the villagers, once a staple of the game, have become a lot less unique and feel wooden.

The comments seem to think that this is on-point for Diana, who is the only snooty-personality deer in New Horizons. As Reddit user molscosycorner says, "She’s taking unbothered queen to the next level." Other comments point out that if she had stayed, the balloon that strolled by immediately after the left would have photo-bombed the scene and ruined the image, anyway. It seems that a photo of Diana for this player is just not meant to be.

Our Take: Animal Crossing Villagers Make Things All The More Interesting

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Has Some Memorable Villagers

This isn't the first time Diana has shown she's simply not interested in allowing the player to take any photos of her. In a previous Reddit post, songofbrokenpines69 shared their first attempt to take a nice picture while sitting with Diana on a tree stump, when the deer decided to slide off the stump the instant the camera came out and suddenly became very interested in something just off-screen. Interactions with villagers like Diana are one of the things that makes Animal Crossing: New Horizons such a special game, causing many players to fall in love with certain Animal Crossing villagers.

Often, it's the grumpy or standoffish personalities that tend to win over fans in the series. This is in part because when these characters do finally allow players to share a sweet moment with them, it's all the more rewarding. Some players have recently mentioned falling out of love with the characters in the game, but it seems from this interaction with Diana that some Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers are still every bit as charming and full of personality.
