And the British musician continued that tradition as he invited two of the Warne brood backstage at his Melbourne concert this week.
In photos shared to social media, Jackson and Summer Warne cuddled up to the superstar as they mingled with his entourage.
Jackson shared the photos on Instagram, adding a caption simply reading 'Ed' alongside a heart emoji.
The siblings beamed as they embraced the Shape of You hitmaker, who appeared delighted to see them again.
It was a sweet end to an unpleasant concert experience that saw Summer clash with a 'Karen' in the crowd.

Summer revealed she was involved in a heated altercation with a fellow concertgoer after having water poured down her clothing during Sheeran's performance in Melbourne.
The 24-year-old shared details of the confrontation at Marvel Stadium, telling followers she was left shocked and furious by the behaviour of a woman she labelled a 'Karen'.
Warne, who attended the concert with siblings Brooke and Jackson, said tensions began when she and her friends stood up to dance during the show.
'I wasn't aware of the rule you aren't allowed to stand up and sing and dance at a concert,' Summer said in a video posted to TikTok.
The situation escalated dramatically when she claims another woman sitting behind her poured water down her clothing without warning.
'I got water poured all over my back and my a** crack tonight,' she said.
'And she's pouring it like all over my jeans and my top. Keep in mind this isn't just the lady that had just abused [my friend], a different lady. She starts laughing and smirking … she goes 'it must have been an accident'… at this point I'm seeing red.'
Warne said she confronted the woman immediately after realising what had happened.

'I said what possesses you to pour water down my undies and down my jeans for standing up and dancing at a concert?'
'You are a grown a** woman picking on a 24 year-old girl that is trying to have fun at a concert.'
She admitted the confrontation pushed her to react in a way she normally wouldn't.
'She's denying it and then I lose it. Never in my life have I gone off at someone like this,' Summer said.
Shane and Ed formed a close personal friendship after meeting during Sheeran's early tours of Australia, bonding over cricket and music.
Sheeran became a regular guest of the Warne family and performed at Shane Warne's private funeral and memorial service at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in March 2022, honouring his late friend.
The singer has remained connected to Warne's children, Summer, Brooke and Jackson, and has publicly supported the family in the years following Warne's sudden death.
