Netflix is officially done with its highly underrated fantasy franchise, three years after prematurely canceling its TV adaptation. Premiering on April 23, 2021, Netflix scrapped the series after just two seasons, on November 15, 2023, despite its strong performance earlier that year. The cancellation came after the 2023 SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild of America strikes ended, which Netflix cited as the reason for ending the show. However, Season 2 also saw a significant drop in viewership compared with Season 1, and the series was reportedly expensive to produce.

Shadow and Bone is arguably one of the best fantasy shows of the 2020s, which deserved better than it got and is still worth revisiting more than once. Shortly before the show's cancellation, a game adaptation surprise-launched on Netflix Games for iOS and Android on November 9, 2023. Titled Shadow and Bone: Enter the Fold, the game was developed by Munich-based Chimera Entertainment and is described as a modern "choose your own adventure" featuring RPG mechanics and episodic storytelling.

Despite its brief run, Enter the Fold will shut down on November 9, 2026, making November 8 the last day to play, according to What's on Netflix. This is a major blow to Grishaverse fans, as the Shadow and Bone game is the only franchise content left on Netflix besides rewatching its two seasons. Moreover, the game's departure is one of many, as fan favorites like Tomb Raider Reloaded, Game Dev Tycoon, and Hello Kitty and Friends: Happiness Parade have already left, along with some of the oldest games, including Bowling Ballers and Teeter Up.

Netflix Is Officially Done With 'Shadow and Bone'

The single-player narrative RPG was first revealed at Geeked Week 2022 under the working title Shadow and Bone: Destinies. Set between Seasons 1 and 2 of the TV adaptation, the story lets players take control of fan-favorite characters, including Alina, Jesper, Sturmhond, and General Kirigan. Along the way, players manage scarce resources and choose between Grisha magic, stealth, negotiation, and combat.

As for the TV adaptation, both seasons, which boast Certified Fresh scores on Rotten Tomatoes, draw on author Leigh Bardugo's masterful works, particularly her debut novel, Shadow and Bone and the 2015 bestseller Six of Crows. Six of Crows is the first book in a duology, which Netflix already planned to adapt, but unfortunately, that was canceled, too.

Shadow and Bone: Enter the Fold departs in November. Stay tuned to Collider for more Grishaverse updates.
