Seth Meyers Reacts to Being Mistaken for Hugh Grant at Olympics

Seth Meyers’ Daughter Adelaide, 4, Shines During Adorable Late Night Appearance

Seth Meyers is just a man, standing in front of cameras, asking to be properly identified by fans.

After attending the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics, the late-night television host detailed his whirlwind experience at the Winter Games, which included a run-in with one person who thought he was Hugh Grant.

“I was walking around and Americans were stopping to say hello. Canadians were stopping to say hello. A lot of Scandinavians were stopping to say hello,” Seth explained on the Feb. 23 episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers. “A lot of people wanted pictures.”

The 52-year-old—who joked that he sat in the “regular seats” to see Team USA women’s hockey players win gold because he wasn’t “invited” to sit in the luxury box—had no issues about mingling with fans, either. As he quipped, “I'm a man of the people… I enjoy that a great deal, talking to people.”

But when it came to one man in particular, Seth’s celebrity status was apparently not as impressive as Hugh’s stardom—though he had to first prove he wasn’t the Notting Hill actor.

“Another guy goes, ‘Are you Hugh Grant?’ And I was like, no,” Seth recalled. “I had to show him a picture of me interviewing Hugh Grant. You know what he said? He goes, ‘Ahh, I would have got a picture with Hugh Grant.’”

Indeed, Seth has had the Love Actually star on his show several times, with the most recent interview taking place in November 2024. And the mix-up is not entirely off base as the two have previously joked about how much they looked alike in the 90s.

But, as it turns out, that wasn’t the only funny fan encounter Seth had in Italy. The Saturday Night Live alum also joked about how most Italians “had no idea who I was,” which presented some awkward exchanges.

“They were curious as to why other people knew who I was,” he said on his show. “So I kept having these moments where people come over and go, ‘What are they [talking about]…? Who are you? Who are you?’”

After explaining that he hosts a television show, Seth said the Italians would often respond, “‘Alright, I'll get a picture.’ I'm like, ‘Don't do me any favors!’”

Jokes aside, the TV host was more than ecstatic about his time the Olympics and praised the people in Milan for putting on such a “wonderful” event.

Seth wasn’t the only star who attended the Olympics this month. Keep reading to see what other celebrities made their way to Italy for the Winter Games.
