Kylie Jenner, Timothée Chalamet Celebrate Historic Knicks Win in Sweet Moment

Elmo wasn't ready for the rebound on his latest tweet.

The Sesame Street star walked back his X post declaring that he "hopes both teams have fun" in the NBA Finals as the New York Knicks took on the San Antonio Spurs June 3. His latest comment came after receiving blowback by Knicks fans, who pointed out that his show takes place in a fictional New York neighborhood.

"KNICKS that last message!" Elmo's social media accounts posted June 4. "Elmo didn't mean to SPUR you on!"

Needless to say, the children's character's clarifying statement was more well-received by his fans than his previous one was.

"Thanks for clarifying Elmo," one person commented. "Gotta stay loyal to the streets that raised you."

"Elmo’s a New Yorker," another person wrote, "we all know whose team he’s on!"

Other fans defended the perpetual 3-and-a-half-year-old, with one person saying, "Elmo with decades of kindness work experience only to get bullied by the kids he raised," while someone else pointed out, "The fact that Knicks fans attacked Elmo for saying both teams..."

Elmo's initial post garnered an intense reaction, with many New Yorkers urging him not to forget where he came from, with some even using his past quotes against him.

"Sure, Elmo," one person posted to X, along with a screenshot of a famous quote from Desmond Tutu that read, "If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor."

"I really think, at the end of the day, if I knew that I had the choice, I would give it to the Knicks," he said on New Heights in 2025, "because I knew at least I had the choice in this weird, non-real situation."
