Selma Blair's Lawyers Share Reason for Airplane Outburst

Selma Blair’s team is sharing additional details regarding her airplane incident.

After the actress was arrested for allegedly attacking the crew of a Delta Airlines flight headed to JFK Airport on Oct. 11, she was arraigned the following day where she faced two counts of assault in the second degree—charges to which she has pled not guilty.

While in court, according to Page Six, her attorney Shawn Barnes said Blair had missed taking medicine prescribed to treat her multiple sclerosis and that she’d recently fallen and hit her head. Additionally, the Legally Blonde actress had worked “extensive hours and exhaustive hours” on set in the days leading up to the flight from Los Angeles to New York.

“These factors coupled with the altitude,” Barnes said, “resulted in a state of severe confusion and disorientation.”

He added, “This was not an intentional assault,” while her second attorney Joshua Reitzas reportedly described his client as “the gold standard.”

During her arraignment, a judge set her bail at $20,000 cash, $60,000 bond or a $60,000 partially secured bond, with Page Six reporting the 54-year-old has been released.

The Hellboy actress, as seen in photos obtained by the outlet, appeared visibly emotional in the courtroom, with her attorney at one point wiping tears from her face.

Blair was charged with two counts of assault in the second degree, per an affidavit obtained by E! News, for allegedly kicking a police officer and a nurse after she landed in New York City.

"While [the officer] was securing the defendant on a stretcher, the defendant removed her leg from the stretcher straps and kicked [the officer] repeatedly about the face, neck and chest," the affidavit states. "The defendant caused her swelling to her jaw and substantial pain to her face, neck and chest."

Once she arrived at a hospital in Queens, New York, the Cruel Intentions actress allegedly kicked a nurse and caused her “substantial pain,” per the affidavit.

While on the Delta flight, Blair—who has been battling multiple sclerosis since her 2018 diagnosis—allegedly caused a disturbance and attacked crew members, the New York Port authority confirmed to E! News, with two flight attendants reporting injuries.

The FBI and the Federal Aviation Administration are both investigating the incident.

Blair’s rep previously attributed Blair’s in-flight outburst to a “medical emergency,” adding in an Oct. 12 statement to E! News, “Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition."
