House of the Dead

Deadline has word Resident Evil‘s Paul W.S. Anderson is now attached to write and direct a brand-new film adaptation of Sega’s classic rail shooter, House of the Dead. Anderson will produce the project alongside his partner Jeremy Bolt, Sega’s Toru Nakahara, Story Kitchen’s Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, Dan Jevons and Timothy I. Stevenson.

Onslaught

According to THR, Dan Stevens will re-team with The Guest and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire director Adam Wingard on Onslaught, “a gonzo action horror thriller” at A24. Co-starring Adria Arjona and Alex Periera, the story is said to concern “a mother (Arjona) who falls back on a particular set of skills in order to protect her loved ones after she runs afoul of a threat that has escaped a secret military base. Pereira will play a character called The Butcher, and bring his set of skills – including anaconda chokes and roundhouse kicks – to his meaty role. In what sounds like a chewy supporting role, Stevens will play a German scientist working on the experiments that escape.”

Pendulum

Deadline reports Joseph Gordon-Levitt is attached to star in Pendulum, “a terrifying new genre film” from writer Mark Heyman and producer Darren Aronofsky. The story concerns “young couple Patrick (Gordon-Levitt) and Abigail on a journey to a new-age retreat in New Mexico, drawn by the possibility of healing after a traumatic event. Patrick is willing to do anything to help his wife but becomes distrustful of the retreat’s enigmatic leader even as Abigail falls under her spell. As paranoia builds, the couple must determine if the group’s unconventional spiritual practices offer genuine healing – or mask a terrifying truth that threatens to consume them both.”

Fear is the Rider

Deadline also reports Ben Mendelsohn, Abbey Lee, Toby Wallace and Eliza Scanlen have joined the cast of Fear is the Rider, an adaptation of the novel The Hunted by Gabriel Bergmoser, described as “a nod to the gore-drenched Ozploitation slashers of the 1970’s.” The story concerns “a lone woman, searching for her missing mother, who is pursued into the Australian Outback by a terrifying family of serial killers, with only an ex-con and a young girl willing to help her.”
