Have you been feeling nostalgic for the Hunger Games movies? Lionsgate hopes so, because it gave fans a long look back at the first five films and a tease for the next one, Sunrise on the Reaping.
Running at 16 minutes long, the video goes through major moments of each movie, like Lucy Gray winning in Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and Mockingjay Part I’s Katniss shooting down Capitol aircraft. Love them or hate them, the recap reminds you how for a time, that initial trilogy with Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson was a big moment back in the day, and one of the most successful book-to-TV adaptations of that era.
During the switch between movies, the words “remember” flash on screen like a hijacked TV broadcast, which pays off with the Reaping preview. There, footage of actors from the original films transitions to their younger counterparts: Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Plutarch is Jesse Plemmons, Elizabeth Banks’ Effie becomes Elle Fanning, and Woody Harrelson’s Haymitch morphs to Joseph Zada. Having them say “remember” mid-shift is heavy-handed, but these movies have never been subtle.
With how much this leans on the past, maybe Lionsgate will put the original movies back in theaters, since that’s all the rage these days. (If not, there’s always streaming: the first five movies are on Prime Video, and only Songbirds is on Peacock.) the others Either way, “remember” that Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping hits theaters on November 20.
