A revival of the hit medical sitcom debuted with a two-episode premiere on February 25, 2026. This premiere was ABC's best-performing comedy episode and best overall series debut since the Tim Allen-led sitcom Shifting Gears began on January 8, 2025. In just five days, the first two episodes of the new Scrubs received 11.36 million viewers across ABC, Hulu, Disney+, and other digital platforms.
Now, ABC has announced that the Scrubs revival will return for season 2 on Wednesday, September 30, with a two-episode premiere at 8:00 p.m. ET. This is the same day of the week and timeslot as season 1, and it will also follow in the previous season's footsteps by having a two-episode premiere. On the premiere date, the show will be followed by the Shark Tank season 18 premiere at 9:00 p.m. ET, which will also consist of two episodes.
At 10 total episodes of nine, Scrubs season 2 will be slightly longer than its predecessor, but not by much. While this episode count is not uncommon for modern television, it is a significant difference from the original series, as the majority of seasons each ran for 22 episodes.
In season 1, the Scrubs cast featured Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke reprising their respective original series roles of Dr. John "J.D." Dorian, Dr. Christopher Turk, and Dr. Elliot Reid. Other returners included Judy Reyes as Nurse Carla Espinosa, John C. McGinley as Dr. Perry Cox, and Phill Lewis as Hooch. Some of the newcomers were Ava Bunn as Dr. Sam Tosh, Joel Kim Booster as Dr. Kevin Park, and Vanessa Bayer as Sibby Wilson.
In ScreenRant's Scrubs revival premiere review, Ben Gibbons gave the two episodes nine out of 10 stars and praised how "The show maintains a focus on the original cast, but also creates space for new players to shine, and take the momentum forward." With a "Certified Fresh" 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes, it was also well-received by other critics, and it received a 92% score from audiences, making it the rare revival of a beloved IP that was able to resonate across the board.
Scrubs was originally created by Bill Lawrence, who returned to develop the revival alongside Aseem Batra and Tim Hobert. After Hobert stepped down as showrunner, Batra took over the role. Lawrence has several other ongoing television series alongside the medical comedy, including Apple TV's Shrinking, Apple TV's Bad Monkey, and HBO's Rooster, all of which are also returning for additional seasons.
Scrubs season 2 premieres on September 30 on ABC.
