EXCLUSIVE: After four years as AGBO‘s President of Television, Scott Nemes is leaving to launch his own production company at the end of the month, Deadline has learned.
There’s no word yet on the name of the company, nor details on its slate, other than a focus on premium global content. Going forward, Nemes will continue to produce on behalf of AGBO on several upcoming projects, maintaining an ongoing creative partnership with the company.
Angela Russo-Otstot, AGBO’s Chief Creative Officer, credits Nemes with an “instrumental” impact “in shaping AGBO’s television business and building the foundation for our long-term success in the space.”
The exec told us, “His creative instincts, strategic vision, and relationships across the industry helped us establish a robust slate of premium series and global franchises. From expanding the Citadel and Extraction universes to helping develop a strong pipeline of upcoming projects, Scott’s impact on AGBO will continue to be felt for years to come. He leaves behind an exceptional slate and an enduring creative legacy.”
Russo-Otstot called the move to launch his own shingle “a natural next step for Scott who has an outstanding track record of championing creators and bringing ambitious stories to audiences around the world,” adding, “we’re excited to continue partnering with Scott on several projects and look forward to supporting his success in this next chapter.”
During his tenure at AGBO, Nemes helped cement and oversee the studio’s global television slate, serving as executive producer on Amazon’s Citadel franchise, including Citadel: Diana, Citadel: Honey Bunny, and the most recent premiere of Citadel Season 2, as well as Mercenary for Netflix, the upcoming installment in AGBO’s Extraction universe starring Omar Sy.
Prior to AGBO, Nemes held senior creative and production leadership roles at Universal Studio Group, Universal Cable Productions, Makeready, and Cinemax, where he helped develop, produce, and oversee acclaimed film and television projects including Dr. Death, Gaslit, Banshee, Strike Back, Warrior, The Knick, and Joe Wright’s action thriller Hanna.
Nemes told Deadline, “I’m deeply grateful to Anthony and Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, and everyone at AGBO for their partnership, support, and belief in ambitious storytelling. My time at AGBO has been one of the most rewarding and creatively fulfilling chapters of my career. Together, we’ve built an ambitious global television business, launched international franchises, and developed a slate of projects that I’m incredibly proud of.”
The veteran executive and producer added, “As I launch this next chapter and build a company dedicated to premium global content, I’m excited to partner with world-class creators, producers, and platforms to develop stories with international reach and lasting impact. In this same vein, I am thrilled to continue collaborating with AGBO, now and in the years ahead.”
Nemes’ announcement comes as AGBO eyes the August 28 launch of The Whisper Man, its new serial killer thriller for Netflix, starring Robert De Niro, Adam Scott, and Michelle Monaghan. It’s a big year for principals Joe and Anthony Russo, who on December 18, unveil Avengers: Doomsday, their first MCU entry since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, which for a time held the title of the highest-grossing film in history.
