Scarlett Johansson is one of the most successful actors of the last couple of decades. She is notably one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood, matching the meteoric success of many of her franchise films. She sits among fellow Avengers: Endgame stars like Tom Holland and Zoe Saldaña among actors whose movies have made the most money. At the same time, Johansson contributes her talents to higher-caliber, award-winning and indie work, in movies like Lucy, Marriage Story, and Lost in Translation. She has been nominated for two Oscars for acting.

One such non-IP Johansson movie is Chef. This 2014 feature saw the actor team with director Jon Favreau, another familiar face in the Marvel world. Favreau also penned the film's screenplay and stars as a chef, Carl Casper, who rediscovers his passion for cooking during a midlife career crisis. In addition to Favreau and Johansson, the film starred Iron Man's Robert Downey Jr., as well as Dustin Hoffman, Sofia Vergara, John Leguizamo, and Bobby Cannavale.

Johansson's Chef Is About To Cook Up Some Tasty Entertainment On Pluto TV

Starting today, Chef is getting life on a new streaming service. The 2014 title is releasing on Pluto TV starting today, November 1. This is great news for fans of Favreau, Johansson, Downey Jr., or any of the other cast members, as Pluto TV is an ad-supported, free-to-use service. At the time of writing, the movie is also still available to rent on Prime Video, but it will become much more widely available with its Pluto TV debut.

Chef had a decent following at the time of its release, so it is likely to do well among viewers at home on Pluto TV. The film was made on a modest budget of $11 million, on which it turned a profit to gross $49.8 million worldwide. It also received positive reviews, getting at 87% Tomatometer from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and an also-stellar 85% Popcornmeter from audiences. A lot of this success is likely attributable to the superstar cast and team, but this is a group that is no less beloved now, likely helping the film on streaming.

The Dramedy Memorably Broke A Streak For Its Director

Chef is also an interesting watch because of where it sat in Favreau's career. Prior to the small-scale dramedy, Favreau had directed a number of IP and adaptation pieces, including Iron Man and Iron Man 2 and an episode of the TV series About a Boy. Chef presented a breath of fresh air, as it was an original story conceived of by Favreau, marking a new phase of his career. This provides an additional layer of interest for fans of his work to reflect on, as they catch the film on streaming over a decade later.
