EXCLUSIVE: Live from the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, it’s a Saturday Night Live masterclass!
The Edinburgh TV Festival‘s 51st and final industry gathering will see SNL UK stars Emma Sidi and Jack Shep joining writers, producers and commissioners from the show on stage as part of a new track, Funny Business.
The track, supported by Universal Studio Group (USG), is billed as a new strand celebrating the business of comedy and the people shaping its future, with the successful Season 1 launch of SNL UK a good place to start.
USG is parent to SNL UK co-producer Universal Alternative Television Studios. The Funny Business launch comes three years after the creation of a comedy showcase led by he Edinburgh TV Festival, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society and USG. The fest is offering access to Funny Business for £99 ($130) + VAT.
On the SNL UK Masterclass panel will be the likes of Helen Kruger Bratt, Managing Director, UTAS UK; James Longman, SNL UK‘s Lead Producer; Daran “Jonno” Johnson, the Head Writer; Liz Clare, the director; Kevin Fortune, the Head of Wigs and Make-Up; Phil Edgar Jones, Executive Director of Unscripted Originals at Sky; and cast members Shep and Sidi.
The event will be held on Friday, August 28, as part of the Funny Business track bringing together creatives, commissioners, producers and industry leaders come together to exchange ideas, discover emerging talent and explore what’s next for comedy.
The final Edinburgh TV Festival before the event moves to Greater Manchester in 2027 is being held at the end of next month. The industry split on whether the switch, which comes after 51 years in Scotland, is a net positive for the industry, and just minutes ago Deadline revealed plans are underway for a new television event in Edinburgh.
