Whoever chats to him next will have to Returnal to this line of questioning
I dunno if you heard earlier this month, but PlayStation are reportedly breaking up with us PC folks, at least when it comes to the PS5's biggest singleplayer hitters. Asked where Returnal devs Housemarque's new game Saros - due out next month - fits into that, its director has opted to remain tight-lipped.
"Today we’re only talking about Saros and the launch on the PlayStation 5," Gregory Louden said when asked about PC portage of the game by Game Informer. Were it still the halcyon days prior to that report Sony are looking not to bring the likes of Ghost of Yōtei to PC, we could have taken this non-answer in stride, assuming that a Saros PC port might well pop up in a couple of years' time.
That, after all, is what happened with Returnal back in 2023. Alas, no such things can be taken for granted now, with console makers reportedly so concerned about selling consoles once more that they feel compelled to keep hold of their prized possessions in the name of exclusivity. That obviously doesn't apply to multiplayer games like Bungie's Marathon, which benefit a lot more from being able to welcome a horde of PC players right out of the gate.
It's fair to say that, once he got his hands on its PC port for our Returnal review, Jon Bailes felt the wait had been worth it. "Keep playing and each turn reveals with increasing certainty that this is a game totally at one with itself, from its audio-visual spectacle to its pinpoint control to its interweaving narrative and now its longevity," he wrote. "Unlike Selene, I keep coming back to Atropos by choice. Long may its immaculate, horrifying loop continue."
Saros has looked to be heading down a less punishing, but equally bullet-filled road. Here's hoping it does meander its way across the great game box divide at some point.
