Samuel L. Jackson's POTUS Defends America With A Secret Weapon In Bloody The Beast Trailer

Only Samuel L. Jackson can save America in The Beast.

In the new action thriller directed by Renny Harlin, Jackson plays the President of the United States. When he and the country come under threat from a militia trying to coordinate a coup, and a Secret Service agent played by Joel Kinnaman is grievously injured, the president must unleash the classified weaponry of the presidential limousine, known as The Beast, to save himself and the country.

Aura Entertainment has now announced that The Beast will be released in theaters on October 9, along with unveiling the first trailer. It opens with explosions and a command to get to the president due to the limousine. As patriotic music plays in the background, he drives the vehicle as it's attacked by the militia, uses the secret firepower to mow down the hostiles outside, and bonds with Kinnaman's character, who compliments the way his boss says the word "motherf***er." In addition to Jackson and Kinnaman, the main cast includes Guy Burnet, who has previously starred in Landman, FUBAR, Oppenheimer, 3 Body Problem, American Horror Stories, and Minx. As noted in the trailer, Harlin directed Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger. He has also directed episodes of Burn Notice, White Collar, Graceland, and all three installments of The Strangers trilogy. Based on the trailer, The Beast appears to be most similar to Die Hard 2 as an action thriller that does not take itself too seriously and embraces fun, over-the-top action sequences.

While the Gerard Butler action movie Olympus Has Fallen and its sequels feature a Secret Service agent as the hero, it is the president who must save the day in The Beast. In this sense, it is more similar to the Prime Video film G20, in which President Danielle Sutton (Viola Davis) uses her military background to fight back against the terrorists who take over the titular conference. Jackson's presidential character has the benefit of a weaponized limousine, though.

This is not the first time that Jackson and Kinnaman have starred in a movie together. They were both in the 2014 RoboCop remake, with Kinnaman playing Alex Murphy/RoboCop and Jackson as Pat Novak, host of The Novak Element. A live-action RoboCop series from Prime Video is now in the works, with Dan Stevens playing the eponymous character this time.

The Beast is only one of several projects on the way for Jackson, with some of the others being the Tulsa King spinoff series Frisco King and Pixar's Incredibles 3. As for Kinnaman, this is yet another release in a busy year for him that has also included Netflix's Detective Hole, Apple TV's For All Mankind season 5, and Apple TV's Imperfect Women.

The Beast releases in theaters on October 9.
