Samsung's SSD990 EVO Plus may have the same controller as the previous EVO drive but thanks to the more modern version 8 NAND it uses and tweaks to the firmware it's a much more power-efficient drive than its predecessor. The Gen5 x2 support and lowish power demands make it an interesting option for mobile devices, but the market segment the drive is entering is highly competitive, to say the least.

Samsung's 990 EVO Plus is a solid update on the original 990 EVO. It's far more efficient and packs greater sequential punch, but odd pricing and a lack of random 4K grunt hurt it in a highly competitive...

The 990 EVO Plus is Samsung’s real answer to the booming DRAM-less SSD market, it's what the 990 EVO should have been. It's a solid drive in every way, even if it's a bit late to the game.

The Samsung 990 Evo Plus is not a must-upgrade for those already with a PCIe 4.0 NVMe drive or the previous 990 Evo. But if you're in the market for a top-performing SSD that's friendly in cost and hardware requirement, this is the drive to get.

Samsung’s 990 EVO Plus is a definite improvement over the older 990 EVO, but it’s still pricey for a host memory buffer design.

When all is said and done, if you're in need of fast, affordable, relatively low-power SSD that’ll work well in everything from a thin and light laptop to a beefy gaming rig, the Samsung 990 EVO Plus would be a solid choice. We can easily recommend this drive to anyone shopping for a mainstream SSD.

The Samsung 990 Evo Plus is a power-efficient SSD, with both PCIe 4.0 x4 and PCIe 5.0 x2. It promises read speeds of up to 7,250MB/s and write speeds of up to 6,300MB/s, while using very little power compared to premium PCIe 5.0 drives.

Considering the price and the performance of the 2TB version, it’s a great option as a working drive for photographers and videographers working on relatively light projects. While videographers will inevitably benefit from the performance of the drive, the 4TB version will inevitably be a safer bet.
