YouTuber Ruby Franke's Journal Entries Revealed
Ruby Franke’s daughter is ready to tell her story.
Nearly a year after the former parenting influencer was given four consecutive one to 15 year sentences—equivalent to four to 60 years in prison, but will be capped at 30 years in the state of Utah—for second-degree aggravated child abuse, her daughter Shari Franke is reflecting on the tragic family situation in an upcoming memoir.
“I don’t think she’ll ever fully comprehend or understand what she’s done,” Shari, now 21, told Peoplein an article published Jan. 2. “I just hope that she can get the help she needs.”
Shari—the eldest of Ruby and exKevin Franke’s six children—went on to detail an argument with Ruby prior to her mother’s 2023 arrest in an excerpt of her upcoming memoir, The House of My Mother.
“Ruby’s face contorted with anger and hurt. ‘I can’t believe you called the police on me,’” Shari wrote in the excerpt. “‘After everything I’ve done for you, after all the sacrifices I’ve made. How could you betray me like that, Shari? How could you be so selfish?’”
At the time, Ruby had—along with her friend and colleague Jodi Hildebrandt—been physically abusing her youngest children, then aged 11 and 13, due to what the former YouTuber later called a “dark delusion,” then-believing they deserved abusive treatment.
In her memoir excerpt, Shari explained how she came to understand the “toxic web” of her upbringing, noting she had told her mother she had called the police for “the safety” of her younger siblings.
“‘One day, Shari, you’ll come crawling back to me,’” Shari recounted her mother telling her. “‘Begging for my forgiveness. And it’ll be hard for me to give it to you, but I’ll be gracious.’”
E! News has reached out to attorneys for Ruby but has not yet heard back.

The author continued to describe the altercation with her mother, sharing she felt “hot and sticky” tears streaming down her face as she remained strong in her conviction to stand up to her.
“‘You’ve always hated me,’” Shari recalled her mother telling her. “‘Ever since you were five years old, I could see it in your eyes. The way you looked at me, the way you judged me. You’ve never appreciated everything I’ve done for you, all the sacrifices I’ve made.’”
As for how she responded, Shari recalled saying, “‘That’s not true,’ I choked. ‘I never hated you, Mom. I was just scared of you.’”
And while Shari is ready to come forward with her story in the memoir, set to release Jan. 7, it has been a tumultuous journey for her since her mother and Jodi received their respective sentences last February. In October, she spoke out against a Lifetime documentary that depicted a version of her family’s story.

“I saw the trailer suddenly in class and had an anxiety attack,” Shari wrote in an Instagram post at the time. “This movie is trash, and only hurts my siblings more. Please do not support this movie."
As for Ruby, she is currently serving her time at the Utah State Correctional Facility alongside Jodi—who was similarly sentenced to four to 60 years for four counts of second-degree aggravated child abuse—and has expressed remorse for her actions.
“To my babies, you are a part of me, I believed dark was light and right was wrong,” Ruby who, along with Jodi, pleaded guilty to her charges said during her sentencing hearing. “I would do anything in this world for you. I took from you all that was soft, and safe, and good.”
