Romancing Saga 2: Revenge Of The Seven - How To Beat Wagnas (Boss Guide)

2 hours ago 4

Wagnas is one of the seven main antagonists in Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of The Seven. Due to the game being non-linear, who could be one of the earliest or latest bosses you encounter? However, Wagnas only has two power levels: normal and hard, making him quite strong if you run into him too early. Still, you probably don’t want to leave Wagnas for the very last encounter, as they will have even more hitpoints, defenses, and sudden tricks.

Wagnas himself is the final boss of the Flying Castle in Romancing SaGa 2. However, gaining access to this location takes time. For all of Wagnas’ storyline, you will also need to clear Castle Hakuro first and have a means of flying. This can be done by recruiting the initial Iris and Windie or using any of her class successors. Another option is to gain the flying machine from the NPC Hiraga in Somon. Either method will grant you the means of fighting Wagnas at their stronghold.

Wagnas’ Forces Must Be Eliminated First

Asking Hiraga to build the flying machine after Castle Hakuro

Wagnas will not initially be at his home base of Flying Castle. Instead, you will need to clear out Castle Hakuro and defeat its leader -the Black Legion. Despite them looking like an undead skeleton, the Black Legion is just wearing armor and is classified as humanoid. They are assisted by two physical-damaging Mystics. However, the Black Legion should instead focus on the immediate. As long as you keep your defenses up and heal, all three enemies should fall after five or six turns of combat in Romancing SaGa 2.

How to Use United Attacks & Effects In SaGa: Emerald Beyond

United Attacks and effects are the strongest moves your retinue can perform during battle in SaGa: Emerald Beyond if you arrange the timeline right.

After all the minions are defeated, Wagnas will appear briefly, taunt the party, and then flee. Now, it is time to track them down to their home, the Flying Castle. It isn’t a direct advance, as you may not have yet gained access to a means of flying.

How To Reach Wagnas In The Flying Castle

As with other quests, gaining access to flying is non-linear and can be approached during different generations. This all depends on what you have completed up to this point in Romancing SaGa 2. One method is to complete the Bard Quest and recruit your first Iris character, Windie. This involves chasing down a wandering bard in various locations and talking to people in the following order:

  • The Bartender in Yuyan
  • The Boatman in Moulie
  • The main at the front table in the bar in Tsukijima
  • The Salamander with the Bard’s guitar in Zemio
  • The little girl running around Hofah
  • The boy singing a song in Nomad Village
  • The little girl in Ostro
  • The Mole with the Bard’s conga drum in Termite Den
  • The little boy in Teretuva
  • The Boatman in Atlanticus
  • The old lady in Toba
  • If you have unlocked the Corsair class for five in-game years, the Bard’s bassoon is in Garon
  • The little boy in Saigo Village, who leads you to the Bard’s flute
  • The kids in Avalon that lead you to the Bard’s horn

With all five instruments, head to the peak of Mount Chikapa and play a concert to attract Windie. She first invites you to come to the entire Iris village. Once arriving, Iris will join the party and allow a means of reaching Flying Castle of Romancing SaGa 2.

If running around the world is too much, you can also get a flying machine from the NPC Hiraga. There will be many quests marked NPCs in the towns of Yuyan and Liangshan. Speak to all of them, then head to Somon and ask Hiraga to complete the flying machine. However, if your Emperor is mage class, they will be unable to pilot the machine . You must abdicate the throne or use the Iris method.

How To Defeat Wagnas

Bring An Invincible Party

Before heading to Flying Castle, make sure you have the right team set up for Romancing SaGa 2. If you need to make adjustments, you’ll have to flee the entire dungeon and lose some progress. The most important thing to know is that Wagnas deals only with fire and magic damage and has no physical attacks. This makes it important to go in with a particular team:

  • One Salamander - a class that when unlocked, begins fully immune to fire damage
  • One Moleman - highly resistant to status effects
  • One Nereid - high resistance to fire and status effects
  • One or two Court Mages (one of each gender) - can become immune to magic damage
  • One optional Freelance Mage - a fast but weak spell caster

Make adjustments to fit your current Emperor. If they are very much out of place, abdicate the throne and bring in someone who better fits the above party make up. If you are using the Final Emperor, they should have enough power to fit in the final position. Still, spark news arts with the same method found in all SaGa franchise games.

Wagnas in human form during Romancing Saga 2

YouTuber Atilatis took on Wagnas with a female Court Mage main character. They went with more offensive firepower rather than completely invincible. Still, with enough damage, you can easily survive.

Wagnas Power Levels

Wagnas has a base power level and a spruced-up alternate form. This is determined by the average hitpoints of the party in Romancing SaGa 2. If you have reached 700 HP, Wagnas will always be stronger with more hitpoints and damage output. They may even switch to more light-based moves. Typically, if you are already in your sixth generation, you will fight the harder version of Wagnas.

Combat Tactics

Wagnas tends to use a variety of magic but often falls back on his ultimate Firestorm. This does heavy fire damage, but if you brought the recommended setup, the Salamander and Court Mages will be fully immune. To help protect the rest of the team, increase fire and magic resistance by any means.

Midway through the fight, Wagnas will summon two minions to assist. Destroy them quickly, ideally with area-of-effect attacks. Otherwise, they can deal some serious damage.

Just concentrate on direct damage from your weapons, healing, and keeping fire resistance up. If you came prepared, Wagnas should fall in around 10 rounds or fewer. If this was the fifth hero you defeated, you’ll soon be sent to a rematch with Kzinssie. It isn’t a simple retread, but one of the penultimate challenges of Romancing SaGa 2.
