Romancing Saga 2: Revenge Of The Seven - How To Beat Kzinssie (Boss Guide)

3 days ago 7

Kzinssie is the first major boss you'll fight in Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven. After the fearsome foe has used his deadly Lifesteal power against Leon, it'll be up to Gerard and your remaining party members to come up with a newly revised strategy to win round two on your own. Though powerful, the boss is easy to predict from early on, giving you openings to counter.

Romancing SaGa 2's combat system mixes the fantastical elements of JRPGs like Square Enix's Visions of Mana with the turn-based style and myriad attack and party combo options of Metaphor: ReFantazio. While this presents a new challenge in assembling your party and choosing the best fighters and attacks for the situation, this also allows you to build the perfect teams to face tough bosses. To beat Kzinssie, you'll have to revise and train your party to target his biggest weaknesses.

Best Party Combo

Core Members & Healer Options

Gerard, Andromache, and Bear prepare to fight Kzinssie in Romancing SaGa 2

Once Gerard has taken a leadership position, you'll have much more freedom in choosing who to bring into battle with you during your second encounter with Kzinssie. While several of the characters you likely brought with you into your first fight will still prove helpful the second time around, it's a good idea to revise your party and switch members in or out as needed. With some interchangeability, your core party combo should be composed of:

  • Gerard
  • Bear
  • Therese
  • Andromache

You'll have one more spot to fill here, and either James or Aries could perform well, depending on your playstyle and preferences. Both bring effective skills to the table, with Aries offering Life Water and James inflicting considerable damage with Hard Slash and various other sword attacks.

If you're finding it hard to sustain your team, opt for Aries here. Otherwise, James makes an excellent offensive option.

With Gerard as a key player, he now has access to Leon's Light Magic. You should train in this area until he gains access to Moonlight, which will come in handy to heal up as needed during the boss fight. Ideally, you'll want to go ahead and have him learn how to use Fireball as well. This can be done by visiting the Court Mages in the castle.

Grapplavine is a thorny Visions of Mana boss with a wide range of attacks. Despite glaring weaknesses, a foolproof strategy is necessary to beat it.

Bear brings damage and defense, well-equipped with a mace and a sword. He can handle much of the fight without too much help, and he's especially useful in taking out Kzinssie's sword. All the while, you can Parry as needed.

Both Therese and Andromache serve a similar purpose here, as both are adept with Bows. Considering this is one of Kzinssie's major weaknesses, you'll want to focus on learning and using attacks of this kind to fire off as much damage as possible. Rapid Volley will be your hardest hitter here, so it's essential for this fight.

How To Defeat Kzinssie

Best Strategy To Win

As the first of the Seven Heroes you'll face in Romancing SaGa 2, Kzinssie is tough, but his tactics are fairly predictable from the jump. At the start, you'll see a Command Icon at the top of your screen, as noted by TheGamer and seen in Kakuchopurei's YouTube coverage. This will tell you exactly which kinds of attacks your foe is preparing. Depending on the symbol, you can expect:

  • A Stun Slash attack with a Warning symbol. This typically affects your frontrunner, so you'll want to give this position to a character who can withstand or block it. TheGamer recommends Bear here, as he can easily Parry in this situation.
  • A Cyclone attack with no Warning symbol. Rather than targeting a specific party member, this move will affect all three core members. Use this opportunity to Defend rather than attack.

Moving forward, you can begin to work out Kzinssie's main weaknesses. You can play trial-and-error here to narrow down your best options mid-fight, but it's best to go in prepared with Light, Fire, Greatswords, and Bows to cover all bases. This will eliminate the need for a guessing game, giving you the coverage you need to exploit primary weak points.

Kzinssie's main body boasts different weaknesses than his arms , which you'll also need to target to win. Swords, Bows, and Light will still do the trick here, but you can also rely on Maces to deal heavy damage.

Beyond weak points and primary attacks, you'll need to adjust your strategy according to Kzinssie's current stance throughout the battle. While the boss is using his arms, target them with your strongest attacks to prevent him from charging his most powerful moves and taking out your party. During this time, you should also be ready to heal up when necessary. Kzinssie can inflict lethal damage if you're unprepared, especially if you let him charge Shadow Nova to completion.

With his arms subdued, fire off Rapid Volley as often as you can with Andromache and Therese. Use Gerard's Fireball and Moonlight interchangeably, depending on your party's needs. Finally, play Bear for offense or defense with his Sword and Mace or opt to Parry when you need to block an incoming attack. You'll need to sustain a bit of back-and-forth for a while, but you'll be able to overpower Kzinssie with consistency for an early win in Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven.
