Veteran international TV executive and producer Rola Bauer is leaving Amazon MGM Studios where she served as Head of Pan-English scripted originals for the past two years.
This was a role carved out for Bauer in the November 2022 consolidation of Amazon Studios and MGM following Amazon’s acquisition of the venerable Hollywood studio. The long-time Studiocanal executive had originally joined MGM in 2020 in a broader role, as President, International Television Productions.
Under Bauer, the Pan-English division of Amazon MGM Studios has generated six upcoming Prime Video series, including Harlan Coben’s Lazarus starring Sam Claflin and Bill Nighy, — Bauer’s fourth career Coben series — Haven with Sophie Turner, Quarter Life with Riz Ahmed and The Girlfriend with Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke.
Her team and their slate will now be absorbed into the larger Amazon MGM Studios group led by Head of Television Vernon Sanders, to whom Bauer reported. There could eventually be a new designated executive in charge of Pan-English originals.
Bauer, who previously co-founded and ran independent production company Tandem Productions, is expected to return to her entrepreneurial roots in pursuing other opportunities. Her last date at Amazon MGM Studios is TBD.
Following Studiocanal’s 2015 acquisition of 51% in Tandem and its rebranding into Studiocanal TV, Bauer led its content efforts, including original production, acquisitions, international co-productions and distribution. She left in 2020 after Studiocanal bought out the rest of the company and joined MGM soon thereafter.
