Roku and Aurzen Unveil First Projector With Roku Built-In

7 hours ago 5

Roku and Aurzen have premiered the Aurzen Roku TV Smart Projector D1R Cube, a mouthful of a name for a diminutive projector, for "under $200." This is the first projector to use Roku OS as its built-in streaming interface while the majority of projectors on the market now use Google TV as their interface.

The D1R Cube is a budget projector with a claimed 330 lumens and 1080p resolution.

"Cube"

You don't need to point the remote at the screen.

The D1R Cube is not a cube. It has the same rectangular cuboid shape that the TCL A1 has, with a narrow case and big(-ish) lens. Like that projector, and most other projectors in this size/price range, there's no zoom or lens shift. While the supplied images somewhat imply an upwards throw, I'm skeptical as the A1 didn't, and that made placement difficult. We'll see when we get a review sample.

The specs are in line with other projectors in its price range. The claimed and aforementioned 330 lumens, if accurate, will be enough for a larger-than-TV image, but not by much if you're hoping for a bright picture.

Dog not included.

In a rare feature for a projector, but one that some Roku devices have, is a Bluetooth headphone mode, so you can enjoy your show or movie without the sound bothering anyone else. There's also a 3.5mm headphone output. If you do want your sound bothering others, there are dual 5-watt speakers built in.

Though Roku certainly expects you to use the D1R Cube (again, not a cube) to stream wirelessly, there's an HDMI input if you want to connect a gaming console. The D1R Cube can also be integrated into the Roku ecosystem for, among other things, on-screen notifications and other monitoring.

The Aurzen Roku TV Smart Projector D1R Cube is available now. We didn't have a price at the time of writing other than "under $200" which almost certainly means $199.
