How ‘The Bear’ Season 5 Paid Tribute to Rob Reiner After His 2025 Death
Rob Reiner is joining a few good men in this Emmys race.
Months after he and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were killed in December, the legendary actor and director has received a posthumous Emmy nod for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series. (See the full list of Emmy nominations here.)
If he wins—he’s up against Michael J. Fox and Brett Goldstein from Shrinking as well as Hacks’ Christopher McDonald, Saturday Night Live guest host Connor Storrie and Widow’s Bay’s Hamish Linklater—it would be Reiner’s third Emmy award, having won two trophies for Outstanding Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Michael "Meathead" Stivic in the ‘70s sitcom All in the Family.
This latest nomination is for Reiner’s performance as restaurant consultant Albert in season four of The Bear. And although he died before he was able to film the fifth and final season, the show made sure to pay tribute to the Stand by Me director in the finale.
Continuing the storyline involving his character’s mentorship of line cook Ebra (Edwin Lee Gibson), fans received a satisfying resolution to Albert and Ebra’s quest to turn The Original Beef of Chicagoland into a lucrative franchise. And while closing the deal to open a new location, Ebra utters a line that tips a hat toward Reiner’s legacy.
“Albert, we are in business,” the line cook begins, speaking to Albert, who can’t be heard on the other end of the phone. “It’s perfect. I will have all the documents, email it to you immediately. Anything else I can do?”
After pausing a beat to take in Albert’s response, Ebra quotes The Princess Bride, one of the late director’s most iconic films, “As you wish.”

Detailing what it was like to be one of the last actors to work with Reiner, Gibson confessed it was “emotional” to think about.
“It was just really, really great moments with someone that you grew up watching in front of the camera,” he told The Standard in an interview published June 24, “then behind the camera.”
In the wake of Reiner’s sudden death at 78, Gibson felt gratitude for the opportunity to work with the Hollywood icon.
“All those days that Rob and I spent together were a lot of fun,” he continued. “I'm really happy that it looks like, ‘Oh, they must have spent so much time’, when in actuality we just had such a great chemistry immediately.”
