Ripple has introduced the XRPL AI Starter Kit, a developer-focused toolkit built for agentic payment applications on the XRP Ledger.
The release marks Phase 1 of a multi-stage rollout targeting machine-to-machine commerce infrastructure. It includes an MCP server, Claude-compatible skills, and X402 protocol support. Both XRP and RLUSD are available for agent transactions from day one.
Phase 1 Tools and What They Enable
The XRPL AI Starter Kit arrives as AI agents move beyond experimentation into real-world payment execution. Developers can now access XRPL documentation directly through the XRPL Docs MCP Server.
Compatible clients include Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, and custom agent frameworks. This integration removes the need for manual documentation lookups during development.
Two new Claude skills — the XRPL Agent Wallet Skill and XRPL Payment Skill — give developers structured access to core ledger actions. These cover wallet creation, balance checks, payments, and transaction tracking.
The skills are designed to reduce setup friction for teams building agent-powered workflows. Ripple estimates developers can run a confirmed testnet payment in under 30 minutes.
As Ripple noted in the announcement, “AI agents are no longer a future state. They’re already paying for compute, settling invoices, navigating policy constraints, and completing transactions without a human in the loop.”
AI agents are beginning to transact, pay for services, and settle value autonomously.

The statement reflects the urgency behind the toolkit’s release. Agentic payment infrastructure is no longer a forward-looking category.
X402 protocol support is also live in Phase 1, through a contribution from partner t54. XRPL agents can now pay for API calls, AI model inference, and digital services using XRP or RLUSD.
The protocol integration makes XRPL a supported chain within the broader X402 ecosystem. This expands the ledger’s reach into agent-to-agent commerce at the protocol level.
Why XRPL Fits the Agentic Payments Model
The XRP Ledger carries several technical properties relevant to autonomous transaction systems. Transactions reach deterministic finality in three to five seconds, with no ambiguous pending states.
Agents can proceed to the next workflow step immediately upon confirmation. There are no polling loops or retry mechanisms required.
Transaction costs on XRPL are fixed and known in advance, removing the gas estimation problem present on other chains. This matters for any agent performing budget accounting across multiple operations.
The ledger also features a native DEX, allowing agents to execute cross-currency payments within a single transaction. No external bridges or swap contracts are involved.
Institutional deployments benefit from built-in controls including escrow, multi-signing, deposit authorization, and trust lines.
These tools allow organizations to define transaction boundaries for agents without custom smart contracts. RLUSD, Ripple’s USD-backed stablecoin, adds a stable denomination layer for invoice settlement and payroll workflows.
The XRPL has operated continuously since 2012 with no transaction rollbacks, providing a reliability track record relevant to teams deploying agents with real capital.
