Ringo Starr's reactions drum up further excitement for The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event amid the divisive response to the first-look images.

Sam Mendes directs the upcoming four Beatles movies, with each installment focused on a different member of the Fab Four. The leading cast features Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney. Ahead of all the films releasing on April 7, 2028, an official first look was provided of the actors playing these iconic individuals.

On X, Starr reacted to the first image of Keoghan playing him, along with the depictions of the rest of the Fab Four. For the Keoghan image, he captioned it: "What’s Ringo doing now? Peace and love," followed by numerous positive emojis, including a smiling face with sunglasses, a red heart, music notes, and the peace symbol. For the pictures of all four actors, the caption is "Surprise surprise," followed by more positive emojis and, fittingly, "T-" four different faces. Check out his reactions below:

Starr was not the only one expressing excitement and high levels of anticipation on social media in response to the images. @TheFilmJunkee is particularly enthused about the way Mescal appears, stating that "Mescal really got that Paul McCartney face going..."

@qLxke shares a similar sentiment, celebrating "that mescal mccartney picture is actually insane dude."

More polarizing reactions are largely directed at Quinn, with some arguing that he does not look enough like Harrison. @harizsoeoed says, "I love Joseph Quinn but we were robbed" while reposting other images to prove their point.

@anna_in_chains sees the eyebrows as a problem and that they need to be thicker to make Quinn appear closer to Harrison: "I feel like a few changes would make joseph quinn a better fit for george. thickening up those brows would help like crazy!!"

Others are coming to the defense of Quinn, though, including @biggillpizza, who insists that "As for everyone being overly critical of the casting for each of the Beatles but ESPECIALLY Joseph Quinn like…wouldn’t it just be super unsettling if they somehow looked IDENTICAL to their characters?"

Despite his breakout role as fan-favorite Eddie Munson in Stranger Things season 4, this is not the first time that certain corners of social media have doubted Joseph Quinn before seeing his full performance. This was the case before The Fantastic Four: First Steps was released, but the reactions ended up being more favorable once audiences got to see him play Johnny Storm/Human Torch through the entirety of the Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

Beyond Quinn, Keoghan, Dickinson, and Mescal playing the Beatles, the cast features Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney, James Norton as Brian Epstein, Mia McKenna-Bruce as Maureen Starkey, Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono, and Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd. Between the beloved band members and the project's ambitious approach, every detail revealed about The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event will inevitably continue to be heavily scrutinized leading up to the 2028 theatrical debut.
