RE9’s Best Gun Is Now A Liability
The first time that players fire the Requiem as Grace, there is a unique animation where she reacts to how violently high-caliber the weapon is, shaking her wrist and groaning. This seems to have been the inspiration for the self-damage mod, wherein the modder who made it would agree that Grace firing the Requiem should always take a big toll on her, physically.
As the mod describes, it “applies self-damage to the player each time the Requiem is fired, as Grace — 16.67% of max HP per shot.” This appears to be a reasonable amount of damage, assuming that someone like Grace actually firing a gun of the Requiem’s size would always cause some sort of residual pain, and it is not nearly enough damage dealt to the player to be nightmarish unless the player’s health bar is already low following a previous zombie bite in Resident Evil Requiem.
Likewise, players apparently cannot die to Requiem self-damage: “Damage is clamped to 1 HP minimum — the gun will hurt you, but it won’t kill you outright.”
Grace Has A Lot At Her Disposal, Thankfully
Resident Evil Requiem outdid itself with the Requiem, a DSO-issued assault revolver that basically pummels anything it is aimed at, as well as anything that happens to be behind the target. It is so good, in fact, that its absence can be felt when players swap back to playing Leon S. Kennedy in Raccoon City after having been able to rely on the Requiem for a while as Grace Ashcroft in and beneath the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center.
Unless players are lockpicking sparse drawers and crafting Requiem ammo, however, players will likely have learned to leverage all the other valuable items Grace has access to that Leon does not. Grace eventually obtains Molotovs and acid bottles that can be crafted at players’ leisure, for example, which makes her playable section of the ARK a walk in the park after she already tossed the Requiem back at Leon prior to reaching Raccoon City in Resident Evil Requiem.
