Ever since Resident Evil Requiem released as one of the best-selling entries in the franchise, one of the biggest questions on everyone's mind is when we'll get to return to Leon's outing with its eventual story expansion. While fans already had shadowdropped combat DLC with Leon Must Die Forever, we've still had painfully little information regarding the official story DLC that will offer additional insights into the current era of the series.

Given that the Resident Evil franchise is moving forward with several new remakes rather than jumping into the new entry in the series, Requiem's DLC is the last chance we'll see several fan-favorite characters for some time. Thankfully, a recent leak suggests that Resident Evil Requiem will, at the very least, be going out with a bang when its DLC inevitably releases.

As noted once again by frequent Resident Evil leaker Dusk Golem on X, Capcom is reportedly "investing into doing more lengthy story DLC in the future of RE", which will see Resident Evil Requiem continuing the precedent set by Resident Evil 4 Remake's 'Separate Ways' and Resident Evil Village's 'Shadows of Rose' paid story expansions.

While this information isn't terribly surprising given the popularity of the previous story DLCs, which established several fan-favorite characters, the leak also claims Capcom has "decided to go ambitious with the DLC." This suggests that Requiem's scope will be even bigger as a result of its financial success and positive feedback from fans.

The leak also claims that one of the main reasons why Capcom is deciding to create a longer story DLC for Resident Evil Requiem is that the studio wants to use it as a testing ground for features and experimental side-stories that can be explored in mainline entries down the road if it ends up being similarly positively received by fans. Requiem's success has offered more leeway regarding how many features Capcom can expand the experience with.

Resident Evil Requiem and previous entries like Resident Evil 7 have set up several plot threads that have yet to be fully explored regarding the BSAA and the influence of the Connections. Consequently, a story DLC could finally offer some much-needed answers to some of the fans' greatest questions.

Unfortunately, current release window leaks suggest we're still quite a ways off from Resident Evil Requiem's DLC getting an official launch date. The project is rumored to be releasing after the highly anticipated Resident Evil Code Veronica Remake, meaning we'll likely have to wait a bit before we get answers to things like Xeno's history and place in the Resident Evil universe.

Despite the continued wait, if leaks like these turn out to be true, then Resident Evil Requiem fans will be more than pleased with the ambitious content that we'll be receiving next year. This might be closer to a direct sequel than Resident Evil 10 is likely to be, while teasing features and characters that could be included in the series' next major outing.
