Ever since Resident Evil Requiem first dropped to critical acclaim, one of the biggest areas of speculation has been what we can expect from its upcoming DLC in terms of its story, setting, and speculation over returning characters. Unfortunately, despite plenty of excitement and several supposed leaks, we have known painfully little about the expansion for Resident Evil Requiem since its release.

Although we already got the free Leon Must Die Forever DLC to help tide us over until the release of Requiem's new storyline, Capcom just dropped a free Resident Evil DLC that will come as a complete surprise for many fans of the series.

While it unfortunately isn't the new Requiem DLC we were hoping for, Capcom just dropped the official launch trailer for the series' latest collaboration on the Resident Evil Survival Unit YouTube channel, which will see brand-new content from the monster hunter series making its way into the survival horror franchise's free-to-play flagship mobile game.

Having been previously teased on Resident Evil's social media channels, Survival Unit's first crossover will see two new characters being added to the game in the form of a Male Hunter as a defender hero, a Female Hunter as a ranged hero, and some familiar enemies like the flying terror of the skies, Rathalos.

The Resident Evil Survival Unit X Monster Hunter collaboration begins now and ends on July 29.

Although you would be completely forgiven for not knowing about Resident Evil Survival Unit, given that its launch was massively overshadowed by Resident Evil Requiem's release only 3 months later, the gacha-style game has been received very positively by fans of the series on iOS and Android, despite a few complaints over its gameplay limitations compared to the main series.

While the collaboration is far from the first time Resident Evil and Monster Hunter have shared a universe, Resident Evil Survival Unit's crossover DLC stands out for being the first time characters and monsters from the legendary series have made their way into the world of Resident Evil, as the event will see you hunting monsters like Rathalos alongside strategic mission-based battles featuring other beasts from the series within the confines of Raccoon City.

The limited-time collaboration event has more than a few goodies for players who participate in the new content being offered as well, with several new character skins that can be unlocked through playing the new Monster Hunter-themed minigames included or purchased using in-game currency.

Given that the current release dates for both Resident Evil Requiem and Monster Hunter Wilds' upcoming story expansions still don't have a definitive release date just yet, the Resident Evil Survival Unit crossover DLC is far from the worst way to help pass the time waiting, while still getting a unique Resident Evil fix that's different from anything we've seen in the series so far.
