James is a gaming writer from London who has spent thousands of hours exploring titles from every genre. Though he has a particular affinity for multiplayer titles like World of Warcraft, Destiny 2 and League of Legends, he has also put thousands of hours into single-player experiences, from deep RPGs to epic PC strategies. When he's not playing or writing, he can usually be found supporting his beloved Brentford FC.

The survival horror genre has been through a bit of a renaissance over the last few years, culminating in the universally lauded release of Resident Evil Requiem, which really showed just how impressive and atmospheric they could be with the benefit of modern hardware.

Aside from the pre-existing titans of the genre, there have been plenty of great offerings from more fledgling IPs, with more on the way all the time.

Now, one of the best horror creations of the last decade is about to finally make a return to round out a long-awaited trilogy, and having seen what's on offer, it could have all the ingredients needed to be the very best of the bunch.

Remothered: Red Nun's Legacy Confirmed By Stormind Games

Developer Stormind Games has officially confirmed that they are heading up the release of the third game in the Remothered series, Red Nun's Legacy. It's a long-awaited return to the franchise, which has effectively been on ice since 2020, with the studio working on 2024’s A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead and as part of a co-production on Mafia: The Old Country.

If you aren't too familiar with where the series has been so far, the first release was 2018's Remothered: Tormented Fathers, which was critically very well received and had some genuinely impressive strengths, particularly around its enthralling narrative. The sequel came in 2020 with Remothered: Broken Porcelain, which simply didn't manage to strike the same chords or progress the franchise in a way that felt meaningful.

It has been six years since then, and it's difficult to overstate just how spectacular the third piece in this intriguing puzzle is looking at this early(ish) stage.

Set in the shadows of Mount Etna, Sicily (where the developer is also based) the game is going to take up many of the more intricate portions of the story laid out in the first two games and (hopefully) tie it up in a satisfying conclusion, with the titular Red Nun serving as the overarching antagonist.

The gameplay, whilst definitely focused on stealth once more, will give the player some tools to attack and hurt enemies to facilitate escape. If combat isn't your thing, the developer did reiterate that it will be possible to progress through the entire game to the finish, without ever engaging in a fight of any kind.

The similarities in appearance to the aforementioned Resident Evil Requiem and Silent Hill f are there for all to see, but given how brilliant those games are to play, it's really difficult to consider that anything but a good thing. Where Red Nun's Legacy will have to set itself apart is in its storytelling, and the brief look we were given at the game suggests that it has all the ingredients needed to do just that.

At the same time, it's also pretty stunning to look at, in everything from the character designs to the classic (monsters aside) Sicilian Villa that you'll be exploring. Given that there's plenty of time yet for the developer to refine things further, all the signs are positive that this could be the conclusion that the fan base both wants and deserves after all this time.

Red Nun's Legacy Launches In 2026

The game's official reveal came with a broad release window of 2026, so you can expect it to arrive at the back end of the year in Q3 or Q4. Until then, you'll just have to sit tight and tide the time over with another go-round in Requiem, but don't be surprised if this is a contender alongside it when it does eventually arrive in our collective laps.
