Resident Evil Fans Are Losing Their Minds Over Capcom's Next Remake After Veronica

Even before the release of Requiem, the Resident Evil franchise has been absolutely ripe with leaks for new remasters, remakes, and new entries in the series. While it feels like Capcom has no way to offer a surprise for fans of the series, a recent leak has caught fans of the series entirely off guard about what they thought was on the horizon from the iconic game studio.

Having already promised that Capcom will be focusing on older IPs and fan-favorite entries that haven't gotten nearly enough attention in recent years, Capcom is reportedly shifting focus to give survival horror fans something they've been begging to play for well over a decade.

As noted by Pirat_Nation on X, Resident Evil leaker Team Biohazard, which correctly predicted the announcement of the Code Veronica remake weeks before it was officially revealed at Summer Games Fest, Dino Crisis is supposedly not only getting a remake, but it has already been in development for 4 years at this point.

While it isn't the next official Resident Evil project that fans have been hoping to hear off the heels of Capcom's latest leaks, the Dino Crisis franchise is one that fans have been requesting for decades at this point. Despite often being described as "Resident Evil but with dinosaurs" among RE fans, the unique setting, differing survival mechanics, and memorable characters of Dino Crisis help it "stand on its own" compared to Capcom's golden goose.

Given its similarities with the beloved Resident Evil series, it's not too surprising to hear that many fans of the survival horror games are just as eager to hear about a return to the cult-classic Dino Crisis given it was one of the top requested game on Capcom's official player survey, which already has fans saying that they "love the idea of a DC remake" in response to the latest leak.

Although it's not too surprising to see how excited Dino Crisis, Resident Evil, or survival horror fans in general are about the upcoming project, some users were quick to raise a few concerns about the new project as well. From concerns that Capcom will "butcher" its female protagonist by watering down her personality, or simply replicating the highly successful Resident Evil Remake formula, which focuses more heavily on the action, similar to Dino Crisis 2 and 3, some fans are a bit hesitant to jump fully on board with the new project for now.

Despite its similarities to the Resident Evil franchise both in gameplay and tone, the original "Dino Crisis is a hardcore survival horror" that even manages to surpass its most popular counterpart in difficulty, while still keeping the tension high as players barely manage to scrape by with the resources available.

While we'll have to wait and see the direction Capcom chooses for the upcoming remake, and whether it will play more similarly to the Resident Evil 2 Remake or Resident Evil 1 Remaster, we're just happy to see the 27-year-old Dino Crisis franchise getting any new updates at this point.
