James is a gaming writer from London who has spent thousands of hours exploring titles from every genre. Though he has a particular affinity for multiplayer titles like World of Warcraft, Destiny 2 and League of Legends, he has also put thousands of hours into single-player experiences, from deep RPGs to epic PC strategies. When he's not playing or writing, he can usually be found supporting his beloved Brentford FC.
A big part of what makes Red Dead Redemption 2 so special is the world Rockstar managed to create. While the characters and story are obviously very important in their own right, there's something different about exploring such an expansive and beautiful map for hours on end, and you'll struggle to find that in all but a few games.
Along the way there are plenty of memorable locations to explore and points of interest to find, all of which contribute to the wider tapestry of realism and immersion that it manages to weave. That said, there is one place in particular that's notably fascinating because of how limited our exposure to it is as players, but one mod aims to give us a much better look at its mysteries.
Anybody who has played into the later stages of Red Dead Redemption 2 will know about Guarma, The tropical island is where the gang washes up after the botched heist in Saint Denis, during the Banking, The Old American Art mission. That serves as the conclusion of Chapter 4, and after leaving Guarma at the end of Chapter 5, it becomes impossible to return.
Over on Nexus Mods, the download Guarma - The Hidden Paradise aims to add a ton of depth to the location, bringing in new features, characters, and areas to explore. In sharing some insight into what the mod entails, the developer confirmed the following:
"A lore-friendly complete Guarma overhaul mod that aims to enhance and renew the Guarma experience with new things to do, new map details, new strangers to come across, new locations, and more, heavily inspired by what we know about the island in its prerelease stages. Now remade and remastered almost fully from the ground up."
It also brings back a bunch of cut content that was originally intended for inclusion in the base game, including the Monastery Crypt and the very dapper Dr Higgins. There are also five treasure locations for the player to track down for new rewards, all of which can be sold for hefty rewards to a fence if you manage to get them out of Guarm safely.
As with all mods on the site, Guarma - The Hidden Paradise is free to download and pretty much feature complete right now. If you are currently working through Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC, it's well worth adding to make those middle chapters an even richer experience.
