RB Leipzig has reportedly tabled a €35 million offer to Lille OSC for Matias Fernandez-Pardo, joining a growing queue of clubs chasing the 21-year-old Belgian forward this summer. The bid would represent a significant return on Lille’s investment, having brought Fernandez-Pardo back from KAA Gent just two years ago for a reported €10 million plus add-ons.
But Lille isn’t exactly in a rush to sell. The French club has reportedly been holding out for something closer to €70 million, which puts a pretty wide canyon between what buyers are offering and what sellers are demanding.
A crowded pitch of suitors
Leipzig isn’t the only club circling. Atlético Madrid reportedly submitted a formal €35 million offer around August 10-11, which Lille has yet to accept. Liverpool, Arsenal, and Tottenham have all been linked with interest in the player, turning this into one of the summer window’s most closely watched transfer sagas.
Fernandez-Pardo himself has made his intentions clear. The winger submitted a transfer request in late July 2026, which Lille promptly rejected. With his contract running until 2029, Lille holds substantial leverage in any negotiation.
From €10M investment to €70M valuation
Born on February 3, 2005, the Belgian international rejoined Lille from KAA Gent in August 2024 for around €10 million plus performance-related bonuses. During the 2025-26 campaign, Fernandez-Pardo scored 8 goals and played a central role in helping Lille secure Champions League qualification.
What Leipzig brings to the table
For RB Leipzig, this pursuit makes strategic sense. The Red Bull-backed club has built its identity around identifying and developing young talent across Europe, often outmaneuvering wealthier rivals by moving quickly and offering clear pathways to first-team football and European competition. It’s the same approach that attracted players like Christopher Nkunku before his move to Chelsea and Dani Olmo before his transfer to Barcelona.
Whether €35 million is enough to get a deal done remains the central question. With Atlético Madrid reportedly offering the same figure and also being rebuffed, Leipzig may need to significantly sweeten its proposal. A gap of roughly €35 million between the highest known bid and Lille’s reported asking price is not the kind of difference that gets bridged with creative add-on structures alone.
Notably, no formal bid from RB Leipzig has been confirmed as of August 23, 2026, meaning Leipzig’s interest remains at the rumor stage while Atlético’s €35 million offer stands as the only documented formal proposal on the table.
