100 Zeros, the production partnership between Range Media Partners and Google, announced today that it is venturing into the explosive popularity of microdramas.
The company has built a robust and holistic infrastructure spanning financing, production, distribution, and monetization across a broad spectrum of vertical videos. 100 Zeros is also working across various verticalized genres including other scripted formats as well as non-scripted ones to create a diverse slate of serialized, bingeable content optimized for mobile viewing.
Some of the initial slate includes Dateable from The Bachelor creator Mike Fleiss, The O.C. creator McG returning to Orange County with Newport Beach as well as a slate of upcoming projects American Idol creator Simon Fuller. They will also partner with with Artists For Artists (AFA), Kenan Thompson and John Ryan Jr.’s production shingle, a 90s-inspired kidnapping thriller with a dark comedic edge.
Beyond leveraging Range’s extensive expertise in production and talent representation, Range is working on opportunities to establish specialized standing sets within a larger studio environment to enable highly efficient productions.
Upon completion, the 100 ZEROS’s microdramas slate will be distributed across multiple platforms, including a first window on the Google TV mobile app on Android phones, which recently launched a dedicated microdrama offering in the US. Google TV’s microdrama mobile viewing experience not only offers a frictionless content-first experience for users, but it also provides a path for content creators to distribute and monetize microdrama content without needing to build and maintain their own first party app.
On behalf of Range, Rachel Douglas, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Mark Herwick are overseeing the initiative, with creative executives Casey Durant and Penny Lin focused on 100 ZEROS projects.
